Person of Interest may have ended this week, but the CBS series’ executive producers recently told Deadline they’re open to a spin-off series.
The drama starred Jim Caviezel as a former CIA agent who partners with a billionaire (Michael Emerson) to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The cast also included Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
In the interview, EP Greg Plageman said the show could be revived with a different group of people:
Look, I think the premise that Jonah came up with in terms of an artificial intelligence that takes in all this information, processes it and gives, you might say, a predictive output in some regard is so strong that there’s no doubt that that could be revived in some sense. I don’t know if it would be with these characters. In Episode 11 this year we understood that the Machine had been providing information to another group of people. So could it be that this show is strong enough that it could come back in a different form? I would say never say never in a world where we’ve seen the X-Files and 24 and a number of really strong premises come back as well.”
Fellow EP Jonah Nolan agreed, saying he’d revisit the series in a heartbeat:
We had such a ball making this show that if there is an opportunity to revisit it, in a heartbeat I’d be there.”
What do you think? Were you a fan of Person of Interest? Would you watch a spin-off?
Please do a spin-off
I would be very interested in anything Jonathan Nolan and his excellent team decided to create. Not only has Person of Interest held my attention and the interest of my kids, its impact has been genuinely profound. I know that even the most excellent works of art have their share of problems, but this series was so very good, with so much depth and attention to detail, it should have continued for 10 seasons. My daughter is just watching the whole series a second time, and she loves it even more this time. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard… Read more »
No way.. Without the original cast?? I can’t watch a ‘trashed person of interest’ hopefully the don’t use the original name of the tv show!! What a shame!!
Be difficult with a different cast. Everyone so enthralled with the old cast. Difficult.
The final season had so many logic gaps that for me, it precludes a revival. For instance, how did the Machine communicate directly with Finch? He was never shown wearing an earpiece to hear any such communication? How did the machine acquire the capacity, not only for self-defense, but for playing offense? Finch never gave the machine permission for either. And now that the machine has offensive capability, what’s to stop it from becoming Samaritan v2.0?
I’ll try to answer your questions. First, Finch is almost always wearing an earpiece during the series. In the s5 e12 it is shown that Samaritan agents take it from him when he prepares to deploy Ice-9. He later puts it back and there is no reason for him to take it off till the end. Second, in the s5 e10 Root admits to Finch, that before he closed open access to Machine, she programmed some offensive capabilities to it, but Machine can use it only once Finch has asked her to do so. In the end of this episode… Read more »
I watched Person of Interest every week. I would love for it to make a come back.
I would watch a spin-off in a heartbeat. I think ideally it would be fun to have the original cast make guest appearances if they were otherwise engaged in other projects.
I would only watch a spin-off if Jim Caviezel was in it. He was the heart of this show. Otherwise, I probably would not.
I am disappointed that this show has ended. My favorite show! I wish the other AI would have been destroyed earlier. With all the **** in the news we need more shows like this that has people winning by working together. Good versus evil. I also loved how John and the ladies had a change of heart that helped them from being mindless agents assassinating people without questions to becoming heroes. Also the episode before the season finale brought those three people to help John. I had no idea that this show was canceled!!! I thought three more heroes were… Read more »
If this show gets a spin off, it should be with the original cast. There were too many unanswered questions because of the limited episodes for season 5. Also, I think a grave injustice was done to Reese when he was left to face Samaritan all alone when just earlier in the episode Finch said Thornhill had been on a hiring spree when snipers saved Reese and Fusco. Why not have those same snipers help Reese in the end? It made no sense at all and was unneccessarily cruel with a dose of overkill. The POI writers should know that… Read more »
Only if Jim Caveziel was in it would My Family watch The Spin-Off We feel He made person of interest.
