This season, CBS has moved Person of Interest to Tuesday nights. Will the ratings fall off as a result or will they grow because of a stronger lead-in? Let’s wait and see.
On Person of Interest, former CIA officer John Reese (Jim Caviezel) and billionaire Harold Finch (Michael Emerson) continue to work together to prevent violent crimes in the Big Apple. Taraji P. Henson, Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker round out the cast.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
3/13 update: This show has been renewed for the 2014-15 season by CBS.
Final season averages: 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.83 million total viewers.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The second season of Person of Interest averaged a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 14.41 million total viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Person of Interest TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or be renewed for a fourth season?
Reading the comments about Person of Interest only reminds me there is nothing to cause me to invest my time to try to figure out what the heck is going on with this show. I liked it for a while and then it got twisted. None of the characters make me feel or relate. I don’t really care what happens to them or their mythically cartoonish existence. It appears I am not alone in my thinking. Count me out, and as one who will never watch the show again.
I agree with Marina. The addition of Shaw has completely ruined the show. Killing off
Carter was just plain stupid; her relationship with Fusco and with John gave the
stories more depth, and made the episodes more than about hunting assassins, killers,
corrupted officials, and the like. Now, it’s just one corny, shoot-em-up plot after another. Before I was addicted, no longer.
I can’t stand to watch it anymore. More of Emerson, please, less of that crazy lady.
The picture of the four people, at the top of this page, portrays what made Person of Interest special, watchable and successful. Unfortunately, the picture is no longer relevant, and neither is the drama.
I am within the demographics, and I used to be a fan of the show. in fact it used to be one of my favorites. i was sad to see Detective Carter go, but thats not what turned me away. It wasn’t until Shaw showed up and completely turned the show into a melodramatic, shallow mess that i stopped watching. I simply can’t stand her. I am not alone. if they want to save the show, they will get rid of Sam Shaw and Root. They are just not the right fit.
If you don’t like Shaw and Root, just wait. Season four will introduce two additional women cast members, one of whom will be Detective Fusco’s police boss at the precinct. Kind of makes one wonder why Carter was killed if Reese is going to be a detective and work with Fusco and a new lady cop? Makes no sense ???? There certainly are a lot of female characters, in spite of the fact a lot of viewers would prefer to see more John Reese and Harold Finch action in the storylines. Person of Interest should be renamed…”How to Wreck a… Read more »
I’m within the demo, too.
I still cannot believe how they could choose Shaw over Carter.
While i loved Joss Carter i absolutely can’t stand Sam Shaw.
In my eyes they made a poor choice which now backfires. On top of it they changed the character of Root into something what i still try to figure out.
Those new ladies??? I don’t give two cents. This show has lost me as a viewer. They want to play bait and switch and shock their loyal fanbase? Not with me, i don’t like getting fooled, i’m out!!!!
Perhaps the marketing execs should figure out that the 50+ make up the world’s 8th largest economy. Also this population may watch via time delay devices,
Perhaps the writers should write material good enough to appeal to all demographics. Person of Interest USED TO HAVE higher ratings and viewership ACROSS THE BOARD. Many viewers do not like the changes in the direction of the show or the changes in casting. It’s very simple, really. Give people what they want to see and whom they like, and they will watch a show. If people do not like what they see, they will not watch. Fans do not appreciate being taken for granted or being dictated to, with regard to what they must accept and admire. Jonah Nolan… Read more »
Exactly. They need to rethink the new characters.
While I haven’t reached the age of television and marketing extinction yet, my brokeassed kids who are still living in my home (and are within their demographic), pay for nearly nothing; they make suggest new products, but I buy practically everything that comes into our home. Therefore, the person to whom manufacturers should be directing most marketing should be me. Marketing companies will eventually learn. When in college, one of my market research textbooks actually came out and said to not bother direct their research to minorities, African Americans in particular, because they did not earn enough to pay for… Read more »
Person of Interest writers and producers are obviously not interested in your viewership. According to news, another Caucasian woman has been added to the cast, in a pivotal role at the police precinct. There has been little effort to integrate the actors after Taraji P. Henson was ….dismissed. I have never wanted a show to fail so much in my entire life. Seems like Jonah Nolan keeps looking for ways to say he doesn’t care if Black people never watch his show. I’m betting his message will be heard loud and clear, and we won’t. Tell your friends!
Baseball9er: This is part of the CBS culture, and has been since the 1980’s. Because this website deletes repetative comments, I will point you to one of my earlier comments dileneating the network’s previous failed attempts at cleansing that failed. Why doesn’t Julie Chen roll over and nudge Les and ask why the only Asian in the program is a scam artist, or how in a program in New York (where she is from) he allowed ethnic cleansing?
How can a minority buy the majority of soap in the country? What you say makes zero sense. Its not like they wash more often. And the demo isn’t children. Its 18 to 49. 49 is not that young. Also, you are looking for LIFELONG buyers, not just people who buy your product today. thats why they aim younger. In any case, what is the difference? As far as POI goes, its not just the demo group, this overall number of viewers is dismal.
Besides, though i loved Carter, i don’t mind the addition of Caucasian characters. My favorite characters are John, Harold and Fusco. Its the addition of Shaw and Root that I absolutely abhor.
It is not the addition of white actors, it is the absence of Asian actors, Latino actors, as well as African Americans. Had you not noticed that there were three African American actors on the show who have ALL been permanently eliminated from the show? Killed off; unable to return. New York is a 52% minority majority city — over 4 million people — the minority presence reflected in this city has been totally eliminated from the show, unless you include Ms. Shahi.
I’m sorry dear, but when I said majority I was speaking of percentages — not by volume. Not that 50% of all soap is consumed by African Americans, but that a group that is roughly 13% of the population they consume more than 13% of soap, detergent, deodorant, shampoo, deodorant, and the like. The studies only say that they purchase more of the product, but no one has actually followed them home to see how many times they’re using it. When market research is done, it is traditionally done because people may have been lifelong purchasers, however things change, new… Read more »
I like the actor, Jim Caviezel, but not enough to watch Person of Interest. The show changed too much and it doesn’t draw me in like it used to, when it was more about people and their lives and situations. John Reese interacting with Joss Carter was “must see TV.”
Too bad the drama morphed into an entirely different genre and deviated from what made it best.
Maybe Mr. Caviezel will be a guest star on Ms. Henson’s new FOX television show when Person of Interest goes of the air at the end of next season.
person of interest is a revelant program since with all the google spying of email interception its really not fiction for the most part and maybe the current detractors work for the google email spy network, as for the comparasion program extiant with the allege actress berry,
the program extant is a knockoff of a storyline in the xfiles when scully became pregnant, halle berry sucks as a actress and its amazing she gets paid so much, and she is beong promoted as a great actress, she must know someone since her acting skills should be called exinct
Hmmm … Let’s see: Halle Berry has won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, two SAG awards — all for best actress. Perhaps you may not like acting, but somebody obviously does.
…and Ms. Berry’s salary is not nearly as high as Ms.’s Vergara, Cuoco (CBS), Hargarty, Fey, or Frankel (cancelled), none of whom have even been nominated for an Academy Award. Also, please note that one of the reasons that Taraji P. Henson was brought on the show was because she was an Oscar Award Nominee for Benjamin Button.
Person of Interest enable me to discover Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson, Taraji P. Henson and Kevin Chapman. I do not remember ever seeing any of the actors previously, and if I did, no lasting impression was made. The chemistry these four people created was riveting, and made the drama “must see TV” for our family. When the special bond and delicious interactions between this “Core Four” was broken up and disturbed. what made the drama extraordinary was negated. Almost any storylines or plot developments may have been tolerable if the most important human aspects of Person of Interest had remained… Read more »
It seems Person of Interest is not being promoted widely, but that may change as the season four premier get closer. If the actors have huge followings or are “rock star” popular, I am unaware, and none of them do many TV interviews or guest appearances. One has to wonder exactly how fan curiosity will be generated and retained. There is something troublesome and negative about the way this drama has evolved and whatever malaise has engulfed what used to be so compelling is repulsive. It’s like the show has bad karma or “bad joss.” The “bad joss” could be… Read more »
Why are CBS and Warner Brothers seemingly oblivious to the fact Person of Interest had tremendous ratings and popularity, that has waned significantly, and in all liklihood will continue to do so? It is as if those in power are saying,”we will air what we want and you will like it, but if you don’t, we don’t care.” Kill characters? Completely change the premise of the show? Don’t like it? Tough! We do what we want! This show is in trouble. The writers do not care about the fans and turnabout is fair play. Warner Brothers and CBS just don’t… Read more »
I would suspect that Ms. Henson’s demise was more econonic than racist. I fully expected Kevin Chapman to be knocked off, since his character started off as a villian. But CBS has a history of killing off women and minorities as a way in which to lower production costs. The problem is here is that they murdered off a central and well liked character, and it backfired. Boy, did it backfire!
I see no reason to watch season 4
Just followed a live blog of the Person of Interest panel at San Diego Comic Con. (7/26/14) If the bland and vague reponses of the writers (Nolan and Plageman) and the “Ok, if I have to be here I will” cast members are any indication of what viewers can expect to see during season four, turn out the lights. This party is over. There is going to be a war between two artificial intelligences. Knowing this leads one to believe strongly, Nolan and Plageman may be the first men in history to lose both sides of a conflict, and a… Read more »
You know, i only watched this 5 minute highlight trailer of Season 4 and i wasn’t impressed. I say if that is all you got, then Good Night Show.
People who actually watched the panel told me the whole cast was excited and having fun. I believe they are good actors and play their part, right?
It doesn’t matter i’m not returning for Season 4.
And by the way tony i really liked your post on this other site ;-). (Are there still only 3 comments.)
Thanks, Layla. It is entirely possible “the actors were acting.” (Smile) I think it is sad this show changed so radically. The cast has changed too….and not in a way that makes me want to ever watch the drama again, and I will not. I will check the other site for comments. Have you noticed there is simply not as much publicity, buzz or overall excitment about Person of Interest as there was at the beginning of season three? CBS must be desperate for programming to keep a show that lost so many viewers on its schedule. The network definitely… Read more »
You know Tony since living in the era of social media i notice that there is nearly no one talking about POI anymore. In the world of “Trending now” that is a disaster. I love to check out other websites for comments, but there are non – well except for Nolan’s watchdogs who show up everywhere and are by the way very insulting to people who didn’t share their views – i, too remember all the buzz at about the same time last year. Damn we had the SDCC this weekend and there is nearly nothing about POI in comparison… Read more »
I just read Extant is being moved to a different time. This show is another “sci-fi” failure for CBS. There are viewers who are really into shows of this genre, but apparently not enough of them. Nolan and Plageman and CBS obviously did not value all the wonderfully creative and fabulously active blogs and commentaries on tumblr, and the various internet discussion groups that kept Person of Interest in the spotlight for almost three years. The enormous amout of free publicity and ongoing character adoration seemed to be considered an insult to the writers and producers, and was taken for… Read more »
What happened to this show is very sad. It will never be as good as it was and better than it could have been. The addition of a new character may well mean LESS REESE, and a lot of viewers tuned in because of the chemistry that Reese, Finch, Carter and Fusco brought to their screens with such aplomb. We know Carter has been sadly, unnecessarily and permanently eliminated. I’d like the writers and producers, and CBS, to understand nothing they can ever present will make me watch Person of Interest again, and the only feelings I have for the… Read more »
Person of Interest has added another character, with a major recurring role. She is Cara Buono, of Mad Men fame. She is also beautiful and blond and serves to reinforce the Hollywood promulgated notion this is “the look” that is most desirable and attractive to television viewers, especially those in the sought after 18-49 demographic. The idea of New York City being composed of a majority of beautiful white people is also put forth. Of all the people in the world, and all the permutations of characterizations, Person of Interest sees fit to introduce another “fairy princess?” This, in light,… Read more »
There was a very good balance among the characters when Person of Interest first aired and through most of the show’s life on CBS. However, replacing the Taraji Nelson ‘s character really sent things out of balance. It often happens for whatever reason that decisions are made to take a successful show in another direction. However, to make a change such as that is wrong when it upsets the very tenets upon which the show was based in the first place. There is a delicacy in terms of how to develop a character but it must also be tempered by… Read more »
Person of Interest did not get any 2014 Emmy nominations. It appears the rest of the world and authoritative critics are not enamored with the drama as the writers and producers and CBS portend. What we have here is “reality about a fictional drama,” and the bitter truth.
