Though the ratings have fallen quite a bit, CBS renewed Person of Interest for a fifth season. Now we’ve learned that the TV show may be ending.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
Deadline reports that, of the CBS shows that have been renewed, POI was the only one to not receive a full season order. At this point, season five will only have 13 episodes.
This is just what happened with The Mentalist a year ago — a series that was also produced by outside studio Warner Bros TV. It was rumored to be that show’s final season many months before the network would confirm it. With this short season renewal, it’s looking like history may repeat itself with POI.
If CBS does indeed cancel POI, the studio could potentially try to find another home for it. While the network doesn’t have a financial stake in the series, the studio does. By the end of next season, there will be 103 episodes — enough for a decent-sized syndication package.
It’s worth noting that the studio already has an off-network deal with WGN America for the series. That cable channel has been producing their own dramas Salem and Manhattan. The ratings have been very tiny for those shows but perhaps WGN could be an option to keep Person of Interest going.
What do you think? Should season five be the end for Person of Interest? Would you watch a sixth season on another channel?
Love Person of Interest.
Love this show!
I would define toy watch another season or 2 or 3 or 4. All the stars on the show and story lines are terrific.
I love this show. We the fans of POI are waiting for it to come back ok the air. POI keeps everyone on the edge of there set I know I’m one of them.
This is a very creative show, I love the drama and the suspense of finding out who they are trying to save and the twist they have when who they are protecting is really the perp. Please don’t cancell this show its the one show I look forward to watching at night. The actors are amazing! Thank you
Has anyone wondered where Reese lives and how he practices his martial arts skills? What about Finch? He doesn’t live in the library/office.
Please do not cancel POI!
Heavily invested in the show, and the characters. I believe that CBS should listen to their viewers, and do everything possible to keep the show going.
Love the story line, actors and intense drama, keep it going.
I really want this series to continue. I love the characters, the drama and cyber world influence and the machine. Please continue this series!
I actually looked forward to this show every week. Great acting and an intense and interesting look at the cyber world. Love Jim and the others!
Great Show!
I actually just discovered this show. It’s really good and I think CBS should stick with it as well.
Why is it that a program with as provocative story line, and a great cast of characters can not be moved to a different slot on the same channel? I would watch it on WGN, but hope it’s fate is better than that! However, it beats cancellation.
I think POI should not be cancelled, it’s one of the best shows CBS has and it will be a shame to do so. Stay with it, you won’t regret it.
