The Tiffany network has announced that they’re giving full season orders to Unforgettable and Person of Interest. The newbie dramas air on Tuesday and Thursday nights, respectively. While they are doing decently, neither show is a big hit — despite what the network may lead you to believe.
Unforgettable is currently ranking 14th out of the network’s 20 scripted series. If you take already-cancelled How to Be a Gentleman and the network’s three Friday night dramas out of the equation, Unforgettable is the third from the bottom, beating only CSI: Miami and The Good Wife.
Doing a bit better, Person of Interest ranks 12th on the list of CBS’ 20 scripted fall shows. It’s usually in third place in its timeslot though and last year, CBS was doing significantly better with CSI at 9pm.
For the good news, here’s the CBS press release:
CBS GIVES FULL SEASON ORDERS TO TELEVISION’S #1 AND #2 NEW DRAMAS – “UNFORGETTABLE” AND “PERSON OF INTEREST”
CBS has given full season orders to the season’s top two freshman dramas – UNFORGETTABLE and PERSON OF INTEREST.
UNFORGETTABLE, the season’s #1 new drama in viewers, is averaging 14.00 million viewers, 4.2/10 in adults 25-54 and 3.0/08 in adults 18-49. UNFORGETTABLE has improved the Tuesday (10:00-11:00 PM) time period by +3% in both viewers and adults 18-49 and by +5% in adults 25-54 versus last season. UNFORGETTABLE wins its time period in all key ratings measures.
PERSON OF INTEREST, the #2 new drama in viewers, is averaging 13.97 million viewers, 4.6/11 in adults 25-54 and 3.3/08 in adults 18-49 in its Thursday (9:00-10:00 PM) time period.
UNFORGETTABLE stars Poppy Montgomery, Dylan Walsh, Michael Gaston, Kevin Rankin and Daya Vaidya. Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman and Ed Redlich are executive producers for Sony Television Studios in association with CBS Television Studios.
PERSON OF INTEREST stars Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson, Taraji P. Henson and Kevin Chapman. J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk, Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman are executive producers for Bonanza Productions Inc., in association with Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
What do you think? Are you glad that these shows have been given full seasons? Do you like one or both of them? Which is stronger?

Love both shows and hope they keep them on!!!! Husband, brother and sons really enjoy them also.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE PERSON OF INTEREST. IT’S THE BEST NEW SHOW OF THE SEASON. JIM CAVIEZEL AND MICHAEL EMERSON ARE FANTASTIC AND I LOVE THE TWISTS AND TURNS OF EACH SHOW. JIM CAVIEZEL MAKES ME LAUGH AT SOME OF THE THINGS HE DOES. I CAN’T WAIT FOR EACH EPISODE TO AIR. I CONSIDER MYSELF A PERSON OF GOOD TASTE IN TELEVISION AND THIS SHOW IS DEFINITELY ONE OF THE BEST TO COME ALONG IN A LONG TIME. I ALSO LOVE REVENGE, HAWAII FIVE O, SECRET CIRCLE, RINGER AND OF COURSE I ALWAYS WATCH DANCING WITH THE STARS, SO YOU THINK… Read more »
I love “Person of Interest”! It’s original, creative, and a breath of fresh air – and my husband and I are in the 18-49 demographics.
I guess this means that A Gifted Man isn’t doing that well since it is the other shows that got full season orders. I like all three shows, but I don’t know if A Gifted Man will make it for even a full season or not.
both are great actually person of interest is the best show i have ever watched after “lost” by the way this week episode of “unforgettable” has two flaws 1. when Roe (kevin rankin) asked Carrie the number of the bridges that she mentioned he just checked on internet and the were difference in one bridge (he missed one supposedly) then she replied adding the missing one. Well, here is the question How the hell she knew which one he missed!? Is she some kind of clairvoyant, because that has nothing to do with hyperthymesia!? 2. at the end when the… Read more »
I so glad they are giving them full seasons. I am enjoying POI and Unforgettable.
Person of Interest is an excellent, excellent show — I love it. Unforgettable is all right, although a little gooey like Ghost Whisperer used to be … her character needs to quit being so, the only word I can think of is gooey, and she needs to be more tough…more like Nicholas Cage in Next.
I am surpised that more viewers are NOT watching these two shows. They are NOT run of the mill shows — all have soemthing new to offer. So pleased CBS is giving these two new shows a chance! Really enjoy them both! As for the 18-49 folks that are supposedlyresposnible for what the rest of us watch on TV…give me a break! They DO NOT have all the buying power. Times have changed drastically! The Nielsen system is VERY outdated!
Unforgettable is forgettable to me. Cookie cutter crime with a twist. I find it irritating like a pimple.
I keep finding ways to like Person of Interest, but can’t. I wouldn’t miss it if it were gone.
Good, they are great. 2 new ideas that haven’t been done before. I still see the chance for them to be canceled prematurely, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
I’m so excited to read that we’ll be getting more Person of Interest! (Providing they don’t suddenly cancel it or cut back their order inexplicably). The fact that they’re throwing this much weight behind a mediocre show like Unforgettable, though, makes me think that maybe they’re considering cancelling some of their aging shows. Still, I’m glad CBS is giving new shows even more of a chance!
What is considered a “hit”? Only about 2 mil more viewers watch Big Bang. With all of the other crappy shows on TV, you would think both of these shows would be considered “hits”…
Andy » It’s the 18-49 demographic number that’s most important in network TV.
It would be interesting if you posted an article that talked about how networks view the demo viewers compared to viewers out of the demo. With boomers becoming a much larger segment of the population, I would expect buying trends to move more toward the 50 and over crowd, and make their numbers more important.
The perception, though, is that anyone over 50 doesn’t have the buying power/disposable income for advertisers to really care; they’re seen as either retired or soon-to-be retired. Obviously, that’s an outdated perception, as more and more baby boomers are retiring later or just not retiring at all, either because they like to work or because they need the money. But I think that’s why the 18-49 demo is seen as the most important one.
Yeah for POI!!! Love that show.
i enjoy both of the shows hopefully they will stay on
Its good to see them give a shot to a few shows.. At least this way they get a season to see what they can do. Both are good shows, and did you really think that CBS would not pick up Person of Interest with all of the buss and pr they gave the show… Im a little indifferent with Unforgettable but its been getting better… I believe the only show now that hasnt been given a full season order is Gifted Man? Wonder what will happen with the other shows on CBS come winter when Undercover Boss and a… Read more »
