The peacock network recently premiered a new mystery series for the summer called Persons Unknown. Will the series last? Will viewers get answers to their questions or be left hanging?
Persons Unknown revolves around a group of strangers who wake up in a strange hotel and find that they’re in a ghost town and unable to leave. They see security cameras observing them and their unknown captors create mistrust among the group by offering freedom if they hurt the others. The cast includes Chadwick Boseman, Lee Purcell, Jason Wiles, Andy Greenfield, Daisy Betts, Tina Holmes, Alan Ruck, Kate Lang Johnson, Sean O’Bryan, and Gerald Kyd.
The NBC mystery series debuted on June 7th to very disappointing ratings. The premiere attracted a poor 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 4.38 million viewers. That represents a distant third place for the timeslot and is an even worse performance than last year’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.
In week two, the numbers dropped to a 1.2 rating and 3.52 total viewers. Episode three’s ratings dropped even further to a 1.0 in the demo and only 2.87 million viewers. How much lower can the numbers go?
The network is promoting Persons Unknown as a mini-series and say that all viewer questions will be answered by the end of the 13th episode. There have been talks that if the show is successful, it could return for a second season (like CBS’ Harper’s Island). The series was created with international buyers in mind so if it’s successful in other countries, year two could be forthcoming (ala The Listener). However, with ratings like these, NBC wouldn’t likely have an interest in buying it.
Actually, the peacock network could pull the show off the air before all of the current episodes have even aired. NBC has moved it up to 8pm for the next couple weeks, trying to attract a few more viewers. Hopefully, the network will let all 13 episodes air and allow faithful viewers to see the story reach its conclusion. At this point, a move to Saturday nights or forcing people to watch episodes online wouldn’t come as a surprise.
What do you think? Is Persons Unknown worth watching or would you just cancel it before all the episodes have aired?

Keep Persons Unknown, wasn’t sure after the first episode, but the more I watched the more I liked it. I want to know how it ends.
Please let it run until the end. I hate when networks pull a show and leave me hanging. I still dont know who the majic man is and never will now. Makes me want to just watch my HBO and nothing else.
I hope they air all 13 episodes! I would love to see a 2nd season with a little different premise- like they are back in their lives, but the organization looms. I love this show!
THERE’S ONLY 4 EPISODES LEFT.. EVEN THE MICKEY MOUSE CHANNEL WOULDN’T CANCEL IT AT THIS POINT.
run it all the way thru , my boyfriend and i both watch it and love it
My son and I watch this and we live across the country from each other. We love the drama and am dying to see how it all ends. The ending to August 7th really left you more confused than you thought you already were !! This is a great show and like so many others before it–give it time to catch on… TV executives need to quite trying to get the mega hit overnight..people make time for what they want and with DVD etc…..TV comes secondary–but that doesn’t mean we’re not still interested in the shows! LEAVE IT ALONE at… Read more »
My husband and I have watched the show from the very begining and haven’t missed one episode. I would hate to see it pulled, I would much rather see more seasons. We are very devoted watchers…..Keep It!!!!
Let the show run the 13 episodes! My husband and I love watching the show…we look forward to seeing what happens!
Thanks!
I really enjoy watching this show. They should give it a chance.
We love the show, let it run the full 13 episodes.
I love this show my daughter has been sending it to me from america. It is well worth watching till the end of the season and further.
This show has real writing and thought, something devoid of most TV shows today. Unlike Lost it promises real answers for a real mystery give it a chance! Lost took a lot of people on a 6 YR lie just to collect ad revenue and never gave any real answers to the mysteries it created. I can see why people felt deceived by this. But Persons Unknown seems to being starting to show insight and a plan in a way lost just danced around that. Persons Unknown is the best drama on TV right now its worth the watch.
Run it through until the end. I watch it and hope to see the conclusion !
I like this show but nobody I talk to has even heard of it. It has a crappy time slot on a crappy night. Plus, it’s not promoted. If it weren’t for my DVR, I wouldn’t see the show either.
I like the series let it run the 13 episodes at least. There is nothing more irritating than shows cancelled when you’re promised all questions will be answered.
