The peacock network recently premiered a new mystery series for the summer called Persons Unknown. Will the series last? Will viewers get answers to their questions or be left hanging?
Persons Unknown revolves around a group of strangers who wake up in a strange hotel and find that they’re in a ghost town and unable to leave. They see security cameras observing them and their unknown captors create mistrust among the group by offering freedom if they hurt the others. The cast includes Chadwick Boseman, Lee Purcell, Jason Wiles, Andy Greenfield, Daisy Betts, Tina Holmes, Alan Ruck, Kate Lang Johnson, Sean O’Bryan, and Gerald Kyd.
The NBC mystery series debuted on June 7th to very disappointing ratings. The premiere attracted a poor 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 4.38 million viewers. That represents a distant third place for the timeslot and is an even worse performance than last year’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.
In week two, the numbers dropped to a 1.2 rating and 3.52 total viewers. Episode three’s ratings dropped even further to a 1.0 in the demo and only 2.87 million viewers. How much lower can the numbers go?
The network is promoting Persons Unknown as a mini-series and say that all viewer questions will be answered by the end of the 13th episode. There have been talks that if the show is successful, it could return for a second season (like CBS’ Harper’s Island). The series was created with international buyers in mind so if it’s successful in other countries, year two could be forthcoming (ala The Listener). However, with ratings like these, NBC wouldn’t likely have an interest in buying it.
Actually, the peacock network could pull the show off the air before all of the current episodes have even aired. NBC has moved it up to 8pm for the next couple weeks, trying to attract a few more viewers. Hopefully, the network will let all 13 episodes air and allow faithful viewers to see the story reach its conclusion. At this point, a move to Saturday nights or forcing people to watch episodes online wouldn’t come as a surprise.
What do you think? Is Persons Unknown worth watching or would you just cancel it before all the episodes have aired?

great show, please don’t cancel another great show!¡
I was introduced to the show by my husband who understood my grief after the conclusion of LOST. Persons Unknown has mystery and drama. The plots are unpredictable which makes great storying telling! We have recruited our son to watch the show! My family is loyal to this product and request all 13 episodes to be shown.
Keep the show going. It sure beats the crap reality shows. It’s competition tonight (Saturday) is that stupid knock down show on ABC, and another run of the mill law enforcement series on CBS. Please, NBC, I missed out on Lost. Let me have a little fun trying to guess the mystery as it unravels.
By the way, does anybody have any ideas yet? I say it’s some kind of military experiment, which is a little like Lost, but much shorter.
NBC better air all episodes as promised. I understand all networks’ decisions to cancel shows because of such poor ratings but could they at least have the last episode be a proper conclusion instead of just leaving us wonder? Persons Unknown has an interesting premise sort of like LOST where they are trapped and trying to escape, yet the show is not nearly as well done as LOST. Yet if the creators knew that they were not to be cancelled at any moment they could see where their own story will take us and I think that would fill in… Read more »
KEEP IT!!! im hooked!
My and I love this show….it looks like they’ve already cancelled it. It hasn’t been on for the past two weeks, and looking at the TV guide, it’s not on the next two either. I am tired of investing in “summer series” that end before we find the answers. My advise is forget the “summer series” if you have no intent of finishing it for the fans who do watch it!
It’s back on Saturday at 8PM. If NBC had done a little promoting of this show they’d have had a huge hit. People can’t find a show when the network keeps changing it’s time and day.
Unfortunately, the over 20 crowd isn’t a demographic that networks listen to, which is why if they cancel this show without , at the very , very least, finishing it up, I shall boycott all NBC shows. Only ones I’ll miss, to be truthful about it, is the Law and Order syndicate, and they cancelled my two favorite versions, CI and the original. So, nuts to them.
great show ,can`t wait to see what happens next.KEEP IT!!!
I love the show. I can’t wait to watch each week.
I’ve been watching this show faithfully. Sometimes I do DVR it and I that should be counted as watching it. I too am sick of shows getting cancelled. I was watching Happy Town and I really like that show and they cancelled it. I also liked Ghost Whisperer and watched every episode and that was cancelled too I did rent Harper’s Island and it was very good but only made to be a season long.
the last episode that was broadcast in my area was the one that started out by them having failed in digging a tunnel. i don’t even know if the show is being broadcast anymore. even if the show doesn’t come back do we get to know the whys and wherefores? i am in favor of keeping the show.
Great show! Please keep it on. It’s the only show I watch on NBC.
do not cancel this show it is grate
Love the show, keep it!
I am getting so tired of these networks yanking shows off the air – how do they know how many people are watching the show? Do they take into consideration those that tape the show to watch later? This is getting ridiculous- instead they will keep showing more and more of these stupid reality shows or how about all the reruns? During the summer there is nothing but reruns so why not keep the shows on for those of us that like them?
Great show. I am 70 years old and this is the first show I have really got into in a long time. Please keep it. Thanks
