Earlier this week, NBC announced their mid-season schedule and, not surprisingly, low-rated Prime Suspect wasn’t on it. Supposedly NBC execs hadn’t cancelled the show and would still be “considering their options” until all 13 episodes had aired.
Now comes word that production will be shutting down before the holiday. The cast and crew were reportedly informed of the season wrap on Monday afternoon, as NBC was announcing their schedule. It surely wasn’t a surprise. Mario finishing episode 12 now and will complete number 13 before closing up shop.
There won’t be any more episodes produced for this season, despite the fact that the network ordered another half dozen scripts. Though NBC isn’t officially saying that Prime Suspect is cancelled, the cast and crew have been told that there won’t be a second season.
Theoretically, Prime Suspect could be brought back next season but that would mean that the network would have to put a lot of money into promoting a show that had been off the air for nine months, a show that couldn’t muster strong ratings after a big launch. Thus far the show’s averaged a dismal 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 4.97 million viewers.
There’s simply no reason for the network to spend any more resources on Prime Suspect. For whatever reason, most of the network just weren’t interest in this TV series.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Prime Suspect is being cancelled and won’t be back for a second season?

This hurts & i hope NBC ordered a full season pickup, as another chance, i’m looking for a series from the fall schedule, i think it will be Prime Suspect, i hope it orders 5 more episodes.
Good show. The chemistry is building between the charters. Shame to see it cancelled, like many good shows I’ve seen over the last 2-3 years they get dumped. It’s getting more and more difficult to take time to watch new shows. I think I may go back to watching movies as my main form of entertainment. Many new shows I’ve liked have been axed, almost don’t want to make the effort for newer shows. The post above what I’m writing now suggests moving to a new network, Can’t think of a better show than SOUTHLAND that succeeded. Hopefully that can… Read more »
I don’t think they should cancel this show, it rocks. They should move it to a different network. It’s the best new show of the season. Please don’t let them cancel this show. It’s the best!!!. I think the could last for at least 5 years.
Really love the show. Shocked that it is being canceled.
I don’t know what it is about my television choices but I always gravitate to the shows that end up getting cancelled. This is Chicago Code all over again. I love seeing women as strong crime-fighting characters but apparently viewers do not enjoy that. I will miss Prime Suspect! Maybe it should have been a summer show?
So sad to cancel the only good show this year!
please do not cancel Prime Suspect I like that show give it a chance
Being a retired New York City Police Officer, I have to say that besides entertaining us “Prime Suspect” hit on issues and situations that happen everyday in the Police Department. The actors were cast very well and did an excellent job. I’m really sad that NBC is pulling this show. Big Loss to many viewers.
No surprise here. The mediocre survives catering to the masses. No wonder cable shows are drawing more and more of the networks’ audience. Prime Suspect has a great cast, solid writing, and lots of potential. Too bad NBC is trigger happy.
It always baffles me that good written, well acted shows like Prime Suspect are cancelled before given a chance. This show reminds me of other quality cop dramas such as Homicide Life on the Street and Hill Street Blues. Those shows were given way more time to build a loyal audience. These days, things must be an instant hit or get rid of it. Amazing that Prime Suspect is cancelled and the sub-par Hawaii Five-O is not.
My wife and I have enjoyed the writing and the acting. Come back. It’s worthy to stay.
I must admit that my expectations for the show were low because I am a fan of the Helen Mirren version and I doubted the American made would be crap, but the quality of the scripts and actors made me an admirer. I hope some sort of petitionl will save it.
save prime suspect:

Good show. Bad move NBC.
I can believe NBC is canning Prime Suspect. Of course they cancelled the smart, well written, fantastically acted show! Who is running this network and how do we get them replaced w/ people who actually want to air quality programming? This is a bad move NBC! Keep Prime Suspect!
