Tonight marks the season finale of the Proof TV show on TNT. Will this series that’s focused on death manage to stay alive and see a second season? Should this drama be cancelled instead?
On Proof, Doctor Carolyn “Cat” Tyler (Jennifer Beals) recently lost her son, saw her marriage end, and become estranged to her teenage daughter. Cat is persuaded by cancer-stricken billionaire Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine) to search for evidence that death is not the end and this takes her on a deeply personal and emotional journey. The rest of the cast includes David Sutcliffe, Joe Morton, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Callum Blue, and Annie Thurman.
The series debuted on June 16th with a 0.37 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.66 million viewers. It was a pretty mediocre start for a TNT series. The ratings dwindled downward over the course of the season though they saw a nice bump upward last week.
The season is currently averaging a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.12 million viewers. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo and is in the middle of the pack in viewership.
With ratings like these, the cable channel could go either way. It could easily be canceled or renewed. If the finale does particularly well, those ratings coupled with last week’s numbers might be enough to tip the scale towards a renewal. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Proof TV show on TNT? If you ran the cable channel, would you cancel or renew it for a second season?
love show & cast. Please renew
I love this show – which is usually the kiss of death for a TV series! But here’s hoping my opinion matters. I think they successfuuly laid the ground work for a second season. Please, please, please…RENEW!!
I find this show very interesting. I have just finished the season and I would love for this show to be renewed. It is different than anything I have seen prior. Please renew!
I love this show! TV should have more shows like this,..Instead of promoting violence, shows like this get all my attention!
I am right there with you Meredith. It’s exhausting how mindless television viewers have become. If there is no sex and violence stations such as this claim the ratings aren’t good enough to keep around. I think that they give up far too quickly. I mean one season and they are already considering cancellation? Come on.
Agreed! Thank you.
renew i like this show and gets more interesting as it goes along
I like this show. It is different than the usual story lines. I would like it to try a 2nd season.
I believe that this show is gaining momentum and it should be renewed. I (we) love it and enjoy the many teases and want answers to. ALL of the questions about all of the characters and the obvious questions about life after death. . Some of my friends that I told about this show didn’t know about it and now it’s not on!! Maybe it needs more advertisements on other channels? Please don’t take it away. It is ONE of or at least tied to be the best new series on right now…..
PLEASE don’t cancel!
Please renew Proof please!
The show is fantastic and well written and the subject matter fascinating and bravely deals with the biggest question of all. I am praying there is a second season and that they find proof. Maybe someday science will find proof of life after death u ntil then this is the next best thing.
This show was wonderful with great acting and great stories. I hope it comes back for another season. The finale was amazing with a great ending.
Renew, definitely!
I would like to see the show renewed for a second season. I never watch sci-fi so this is a first for me and I am enjoying it. Please keep it around.
I love this show, I already lost Forever, please do not cancel. Interesting subject matter.
I know right. I was very sad to see “Forever” go. I’ve enjoyed “Proof”. I hope it gets renewed. But if not, I’m glad they gave us enough closure to be satisfied.
I love the show and am fascinated by the subject matter. I love the actors in the show and find them very believable. Please don’t cancel the show!
