Tonight marks the season finale of the Proof TV show on TNT. Will this series that’s focused on death manage to stay alive and see a second season? Should this drama be cancelled instead?
On Proof, Doctor Carolyn “Cat” Tyler (Jennifer Beals) recently lost her son, saw her marriage end, and become estranged to her teenage daughter. Cat is persuaded by cancer-stricken billionaire Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine) to search for evidence that death is not the end and this takes her on a deeply personal and emotional journey. The rest of the cast includes David Sutcliffe, Joe Morton, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Callum Blue, and Annie Thurman.
The series debuted on June 16th with a 0.37 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.66 million viewers. It was a pretty mediocre start for a TNT series. The ratings dwindled downward over the course of the season though they saw a nice bump upward last week.
The season is currently averaging a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.12 million viewers. It’s one of TNT’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo and is in the middle of the pack in viewership.
With ratings like these, the cable channel could go either way. It could easily be canceled or renewed. If the finale does particularly well, those ratings coupled with last week’s numbers might be enough to tip the scale towards a renewal. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Proof TV show on TNT? If you ran the cable channel, would you cancel or renew it for a second season?
Interesting show. I have really enjoyed it so far. Please bring on season 2. The show brings up topics that most people are curious about, and the show does it in a respectful and delicate way. Very good show and actors/actresses play their parts well.
Love this show and love the characters and the concept. There is so much crap and mindless reality on TV . Please keep this show on. It’s one of the good ones that really make you think. Great dialogue !
This is a great show and has great acting. I just don’t understand why more don’t watch it. I bet it will go up in year 2. Give them one more year!
Please renew this show.
Please keep and renew Proof for another season. You won’t regret it!
Please don’t cancel the show. We just discovered it 2 episodes before the finale. Fascinating subject, interestingly and intelligently examined.
Please keep it!!! Great acting and topic.
I don’t hold out much hope that this awesome series will be renewed—although I hope it is. However, Cat found her “proof”, so really, where do you go from here? While there are many, many story lines that could be developed, the ultimate answer has been revealed, and the theme has been resolved. I’m sad about the fact that TNT had such little faith in the show that they “gave up the goods” so soon. Perhaps, the poor ratings was the reason. I’m just happy that they left us with the answer Cat was looking for. That look on her… Read more »

This show did start off a little slowly, but once one became familiar with the characters they were hooked. So many people have questions regarding what happens after one dies, and even though this is only a show on TV, it could bring comfort to someone who is grieving the loss of a friend or loved one. Let us have season two please!
It was hard to connect with Cat in the beginning but now I’m engaged & want more of all the characters in the show!! Please don’t cancel – it is very important to people who have lost love bed ones, like myself, and have questions about life after death!! Thank you TNT, please continue the show!!
This series should be renewed. The acting is excellent and the storyline is unique. A welcome reprieve front all the violence and sex filled dramas on TV.
Do NOTTTTT cancel this show. Absolutely love it. Need to know what happens. DO NOT CANCELLLLLLLLLL
Love this show. I hope it is renewed.
It’s a keeper…hooked from the first episode. Thoroughly enjoy the cast and a look at what awaits us on the other side. Meaningful show that leaves you thinking.
Keep the show.
