TNT has decided not to renew their Proof TV show for a second season. The life-after-death drama has been cancelled after one short season of 10 episodes.
On Proof, Doctor Carolyn “Cat” Tyler (Jennifer Beals) lost her son, saw her marriage end, and became estranged to her teenage daughter. Looking for purpose, Cat is persuaded by cancer-stricken billionaire Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine) to search for evidence that death is not the end and this takes her on a deeply personal and emotional journey. The rest of the cast includes David Sutcliffe, Joe Morton, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Callum Blue, and Annie Thurman.
Debuting in June, Proof got off to a slow start with a 0.37 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.66 million viewers. The numbers didn’t get better as the weeks progressed and were often worse. The season ended up averaging a 0.31 in the demo with 2.12 million viewers. It was one of the lowest-rated scripted shows on the cable channel.
What do you think? Did you like the Proof TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled? Would you have watched a second season?
This was the one show I enjoyed watching. I think what TNT is missing is that there is a segment of us who just aren’t watching tv as much anymore because of the lack of substance. These kind of shows are the only ones we do watch and so these are the only ones where advertisers can reach us. Missed opportunity for all. I really enjoyed this show and am sad that I will not be able to know what happened …. feels like having a really good book I was reading taken away when I was half way through.… Read more »
Bring it back. We HAVEN’T missed an episode and love every one. The acting and scripting is fantastic. What a disappointment this site has been cancelled. There is no other program out there like this one. Bring it back!!! Please!!
I was really looking forward to season 2 I really enjoyed Proof. I wish TNT never cancelled season 2. Bring it back I need to see what is going to happen next.
I am really disappointed this series was cancelled. I loved the story line and the acting. I would definitely continue watching it if it was picked up by another network!!
Again you miss the boat this is a quality show I might as well watch videos
IM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT PROOF HAS BEEN CANCELLED I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SHOW AND WOULD HAVE LOVED SEEING THE REST OF THE STORY. BOO TNT WRONG CHOICE THE ACTING WAS GREAT AND THE STORY LINE WAS REALISTIC AND INTERESTING
Well…this is just a damn shame. I’m really sad to hear this news. I haven’t owned a television for the past twelve years and giving up watching t.v. was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made because most everything on t.v. these days is complete and utter crap. Over those twelve years, there have only been two shows I’ve watched online – The Good Wife and Proof. I’m sorry that TNT cancelled a program that had great acting and wonderful stories that made you actually think and feel about life and death and relationships.; a show that had substance… Read more »
Lila- I agree with your comments. Unfortunately commercial TV today is more than ever about the ratings. In the past quality TV series were able to last so long: (Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock, Playhouse 90) because there was no competition. Script writers could experiment to a captive audience. Television was a novel media. 90% of the shows today are filled with sex and/or violence or sophomoric humor. I like your idea about Netflix, Amazon or another channel picking up this series. It is thought provoking and well acted. A few quality shows such as the The Good Wife & Madam… Read more »
What a shame TNT has done what ABC does with the better written shows they have had in their programming. It is no longer about what TV audiences want, it’s about ratings and money and we are left with mindless, downright dumb shows. “Proof” is a well written and acted show, a far cry from the garbage we get on TV today. And all the comments in this tread are right, it has to be violent, with gratuitous nude and sex scenes, never mind the writing is all over the place and acting poor. Many people as I do, would… Read more »
I am disappointed to hear that the show won’t be back for a second season. I was looking forward watching more seasons. It was a very interesting, intriguing show. Please reconsider!
I am so sorry this show has been cancelled. Excellent acting. Very interesting show that raises many questions about the meaning of life. I just wish they would not leave you hanging when shows are cancelled and offer some resolution with the last episode.
It seems many of my favorite shows are always cancelled
I am really disappointed that you cancelled the show “Proof”. It was very thought-provoking and well casted. I was really looking forward to the next season after the way the last show ended. Please reconsider and bring it back.
I absolutely would have watches a second season – been wondering where the writers were going to go with this.
It is a shame that they cancelled such a well acted and thought provoking subject matter show. Loved it, sorry it’s not coming back.
I’m very disappointed that the show proof will not be airing a season 2. I loved the show and was looking forward to watching another season.
The one show I made the strong commitment to watch, sometimes twice, and TNT cancels it. It’s well written, well-acted, and deals with stimulating and thought-provoking issues. Back to my collection of music and books because there’s nothing worth watching on TV. I’m bummed!
It is a shame Proof was cancelled. Finally a program you could sink your teeth into and actually think about something other than froth. I, frankly, am tired of shows that rely on lame jokes, double meaning and laugh tracks. As usual, market to the lowest common denominator. Shame on TNT.
