Late in the 2013-14 season, NBC and ABC launched three new Sunday night dramas — all with single word titles. NBC cancelled Crisis and Believe while ABC renewed Resurrection for a second season. In retrospect, was that a good decision for the alphabet network? Should Resurrection have been cancelled as well?
On Resurrection, a small town in Missouri is turned upside down when long-dead loved ones return after 30 years. The cast includes Omar Epps, Frances Fisher, Matt Craven, Devin Kelley, Mark Hildreth, Samaire Armstrong, Sam Hazeldine, Landon Gimenez, and Kurtwood Smith.
Debuting on March 9th, Resurrection had a great launch with a 3.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 13.9 million total viewers. (Those numbers are about the same as this season’s How to Get Away with Murder’s debut.)
Unfortunately, Resurrection’s ratings dropped about 19% in week two and they kept falling nearly every week of the eight episode season. The seventh installment hit a low of a 1.9 rating with 7.85 million — half of the premiere’s demo rating.

Considering the poor luck that the alphabet network had last year launching new dramas, it wasn’t much of a surprise that ABC renewed Resurrection. They didn’t have much choice. However, the ratings slide was a terrible sign for the future.
Now, the show has been really struggling in season two. After a positive second season debut, the ratings quickly dropped, falling to new series lows week after week. The October 26th installment registered a mere 1.2 rating with 4.36 million.
ABC recently ordered full seasons and additional episodes of many of their new and older shows. It was a telling sign that the network is only producing 14 episodes of Resurrection this season.
Unless the ratings improve, it looks very likely that Resurrection will be cancelled by May. Hopefully, the writers will give viewers some degree of closure before the end.

I am devastated they cancelled this show. The timeslot had it competing with Scandal, The Good Wife, and Showtimes hit series. It was a terrible spot for it and it was a great show.
Great show just not a good time slot. It’s a show you can’t figure out. I love that about the show, it keeps you thinking and wondering what’s going to happen next.
The only reason why I watch ABC is for Resurrection. Just change the time slot or day. This show is awesome. i am in tears and laughter and anger during these shows. I cried so hard when Frank died and was soo happy to see him returned. I think given in time the show will reveal the story between life and death for the returned. I don’t believe the lead in of Galavant helped. The difference between the 2 series was like night and day. Wish Fox would have picked it up. Demographics at Fox would have sustained the series for another season
enjoyable , do not cancel…………..make you wonder, give it a chance ……….cancel some of those stupid shows…..keep this please !
I watch all my shows from the DVR and this one is usually watched within 24 hrs of the recording. Great show that needs to answer a lot of questions still!

I think its football, they should try a third season, i love this show and i want to see more come of it.
I have lived the show and haves watched every episode. My wife and I both watch It together and she loves it as much as I do. Some episodes were better than others. Put your heads together and figure outvwhat you’re goingto do. Put this show to another season

I really enjoyed resurrection. I am sorry that it was cancelled. I will miss it, it was a different type of show. The lease black person was very good.
Great Show this can really develop into a can’t wait until the next episode show. The problem with this show is that people can’t figure out if the return is a good or a bad thing. The writers need to give it a clear direction. I am sure that some of the problems with the ratings is that he return has to be good or it makes people very uncomfortable. I absolutely love this show! I watch very few prime time shows but I do watch Resurrection.
To ABC…….please do not cancel this show! This is the only show on your network that I watch.
It is SO frustrating when shows are canceled after 2 seasons. If this show is cancelled, I will be very disappointed in ABC!!
Like Revolution, I love this show and now it’s over??? Nielsen ratings are outdated. I DVR just now getting to watch the finale and I am very upset that shows I love get the ax. It shouldn’t be cancelled, but what is my opinion worth?
I totally agree with you, Valerie. I DVR almost everything and watch when I have the time. I love Resurrection and will be so disappointed if it’s cancelled. I’m positive with the right writers this show could have a future. Maybe it needs a new night? As one poster said it’s hard to compete with football. I’d be happy if it were on Friday night. Usually shows don’t do well on Fridays and Saturdays, but Last Man Standing is a great ABC show and is doing great.
