Talk about a letdown. The Rise TV show has been cancelled after just one season on NBC. The high school drama from Jason Katims, who knows a thing or two about shows like that, premiered on the Peacock Network on March 13, of 2018. Ratings for the first two episodes were good enough, but the series just couldn’t sustain its performance in the Nielsens, thereafter.
An NBC musical drama, Rise stars Josh Radnor, Rosie Perez, Auli’i Cravalho, Damon J. Gillespie, Marley Shelton, Rarmian Newton, Ted Sutherland, Amy Forsyth, Casey W. Johnson, Taylor Richardson, Joe Tippett, and Shirley Rumierk. The series centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to Lou Volpe in the Michael Sokolov book, Drama High. Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he signed up for a whole lot more than he originally expected.
Rise: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Rise averaged a 0.85 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.44 million viewers. Find out how Rise stacks up against other NBC TV shows.
What do you think? Did you watch the first season of the Rise TV series on NBC? If it were up to you, would it have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I’m not surprised that Rise was cancelled. It was literate and entertaining. It will probably be replaced by another ridiculous sitcom or reality show. I’m about to give up on network TV.
Rise CANNOT be cancelled. I have watched this show every week and have loved it EVERY SINGLE TIME. This show explains the life we live in today and I can compare myself to the show and the characters. This show NEEDS TO GO ON!! This show is amazing and fantastic. I cannot accept it being cancelled. Please please please keep it going, for all of us! LET US RISE!!!!!!
To whom do we protest the cancellation of Rise? To whom do we encourage another company to pick it up and continue this honest and hopeful show?
So disappointed. There are so many interesting stories that these characters need to share…beyond this first season.
We loved Rise and couldn’t wait to watch it each week. It just wasn’t even given a chance. It had everything hoing for it, the story lines were dramatic, the characters compelling and you had to root for them to triumph. I would love to see it find a home on another network. After this round of cancellations it looks like there is nothing I watch on TV left. All that survives are crime and medical dramas. It’s just sad Rise was the best show on TV.
Loved the show. I watch it with my daughter. Any chance of Neflix or the like picking it up?
I didn’t like it.
Sadly it looks like the PTA won over the play director and the play company loses.
I really loved the show and became very involved with all the characters. I’d like to know what happens to them. Many have interesting challenges. Is there any where we can write and protest?
Great show…DO NOT CANCEL RISE!
Renew Rise. I am totally addicted. Current information addressed and handled from all angles. LOVE it !!! Can’t wait for each show.
So disappointed. It was one of the best things on TV. As others have commented, I hope there is a decent ending on Tuesday … and that some other station picks it up.
Yes! Yes! Yes!
I live this show. Hopefully another network will pick it up.:(
It’s a wonderful show and I’m sooo bummed to see it go ! Hopefully some other network sees the potential here and picks it up. This is Jason Katims, dammit ! He can do wonders, all Rise needs is a second season ! If the storylines are left hanging, I’ll be even more devastated !
Love the show!!!! It has so much truth and passion. The actors are so believable. I hate that it is being cancelled!! I was really looking forward to many more seasons. Please, some other network pick it up!!!!
I, too, have fallen for the characters! I could watch it every week…all year long. So refreshingly honest and hopeful!
To whom do we write to protest or to encourage someone clever enough to pick this up?
Love the show….
Me too. I hope they get to finish the main story line.
I like the thumbnail, for how shock the character is.
