Talk about a letdown. The Rise TV show has been cancelled after just one season on NBC. The high school drama from Jason Katims, who knows a thing or two about shows like that, premiered on the Peacock Network on March 13, of 2018. Ratings for the first two episodes were good enough, but the series just couldn’t sustain its performance in the Nielsens, thereafter.
An NBC musical drama, Rise stars Josh Radnor, Rosie Perez, Auli’i Cravalho, Damon J. Gillespie, Marley Shelton, Rarmian Newton, Ted Sutherland, Amy Forsyth, Casey W. Johnson, Taylor Richardson, Joe Tippett, and Shirley Rumierk. The series centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to Lou Volpe in the Michael Sokolov book, Drama High. Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he signed up for a whole lot more than he originally expected.
Rise: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Rise averaged a 0.85 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.44 million viewers. Find out how Rise stacks up against other NBC TV shows.
What do you think? Did you watch the first season of the Rise TV series on NBC? If it were up to you, would it have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I loved the show Rise. I’m just learning of the shows cancellation…..Bummer
My family LOVED this show, it was finally a show that addressed real issues facing the youth of today, transgender, the right to “come out”, alcoholism in youths, different teacher perspectives, and how the “management” will not always care and support issues. I was shocked when I found out this show had been cancelled. I and my family would love to see it come back. The actors and actresses did a phenomenal job. It mixed cultures, ethnicities, different financial levels in families, sports verses the arts. Really won’t someone take another look at this and reconsider?
I loved the show Rise!! Was just looking to see when it starts back and found that it was cancelled! NBC never gave it a chance !!
To everyone leaving comments which seem directed to NBC about the status of this show, and pleas for NBC to bring it back, this is not an NBC site and and NBC will not see nor read these commments. Try signing one or all of the petitions to get Rise renewed and send comments directly to NBC programming executives to have any real impact.
I love this show!!! Just binge watched all of season 1 and I am hooked and want more. This rarely happens for me when it comes to tv dramas. I think 100 is stupid. Couldnt get past season 1 ugh but they cancel a show like Rise wtf?? Please consider bringing it back
One of top 5 TV shows. Doesn’t make sense to take off the air. Too many reality shows that make no sense. Bring it back!!!!
This show had a great story line and good actors playing the roles. Very disappointed in NBC.
This was a really great, family show with a positive message-why would you cancel it!
This show was like “Friday Night Lights” meets “High School Musical”. I think if was a great show!!! I want it back!
I just binge watched Season 1 of RISE this past week. (I never had a chance to watch it when it was originally on television.) Now I am hooked! I was searching to find out when season 2 would begin and can’t believe it has been cancelled!!! How do we fight for this show!? I love it!!! This show is amazing!
So disappointed to hear this show has been cancelled!!!! Next to ” This is Us” it was my favorite show last season.
This was a terrific new show! Ratings don’t always match quality, and the fact that NBC cancelled Rise just reinforces for me that I’m smart to watch very little on this network. The show was timely, dealing with issues that are very much real and wrenching for teens today, and was family oriented. Big mistake to cancel it. I hope some other network that is wiser than NBC will pick it up and continue it. You left us hanging! I hate that!!
I think you made a big mistake cancelling this show. I would have you rethink your logic. This was a great real life show that you would see benefits down the road. Worse decision you made.
This show was great!! my 13 year old daughter and I enjoyed watching it together! We looked forward to it weekly!! We are sad it got cancelled!!
Rise should not be cancelled. It was a great show & I looked forward to it each week.
