FOX drama Shots Fired won’t have a second season. The series creators have said they weren’t ruling out the possibility of a second season but it seems like there won’t be one.
The 10-part drama explores the tense aftermath of two racially charged shootings in a small North Carolina town. The cast includes Sanaa Lathan, Stephan James, Helen Hunt, Richard Dreyfuss, Will Patton, Aisha Hinds, Conor Leslie, and Stephen Moyer.
Not only was Shots Fired planned as a limited series, but the show’s ratings have been pretty poor. Season one, which wraps next Wednesday night, is averaging a 0.89 rating in the 18-49 demo and 3.56 million viewers. Still, the viewership numbers make the drama FOX‘s seventh most-watched scripted series for the 2016-2017 season.
Earlier, creators Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood said there’s always a chance for a second season down the line.
Word has been that the series wasn’t going to be coming back. Both a network spokesperson and Prince-Bythewood have confirmed that May 24th’s season finale will also be the show’s series finale.

When I heard they were cancelling the show I could NOT believe it!! This is a great show. How can this be the 7th highest viewed series on Fox ( over 3 million viewers) and the ratings are low?! Smdh, I am so disappointed. Another network has to pick this up PLEASE!!

I don’t know how they can see how many people are watching, but I love this show. I think they’re canceling it because it’s too close to the truth.

I’m sorry you feel this way. I’m a white person and I watch this show religiously!! I post it on my FB every Wednesday that SHOTS FIRED is coming on @ 8:00 p.m. channel 46 FOX, where I live. There are more white people than you think that watch this. I’m totally devastated that the show has been cancelled. I’d picket FOX if I thought it would do any good in keeping the series on. And I don’t watch empire.

I love how the show used today’s family lives to tell the story of how police corruption exists. #letthetruthbetold I watched faithly every Wednesday and my FB post prove it #ShotsFired. I feel like this show should be mandatory in ALL households! I’m really sorry to see it go, but VERY GRATEFUL i had the opportunity to watch it. I LOVE RAW, REAL REALITY TV!
