FOX drama Shots Fired won’t have a second season. The series creators have said they weren’t ruling out the possibility of a second season but it seems like there won’t be one.
The 10-part drama explores the tense aftermath of two racially charged shootings in a small North Carolina town. The cast includes Sanaa Lathan, Stephan James, Helen Hunt, Richard Dreyfuss, Will Patton, Aisha Hinds, Conor Leslie, and Stephen Moyer.
Not only was Shots Fired planned as a limited series, but the show’s ratings have been pretty poor. Season one, which wraps next Wednesday night, is averaging a 0.89 rating in the 18-49 demo and 3.56 million viewers. Still, the viewership numbers make the drama FOX‘s seventh most-watched scripted series for the 2016-2017 season.
Earlier, creators Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood said there’s always a chance for a second season down the line.
Word has been that the series wasn’t going to be coming back. Both a network spokesperson and Prince-Bythewood have confirmed that May 24th’s season finale will also be the show’s series finale.

I just heard of it recently and paid via google play to watch the entire series this weekend. Awesome writing, acting. It’s moving. So very disappointed that there will not be a 2nd season.

This was an amazingly written and executed show. As a black female who also works in law enforcement I think the show gave an excellent representation of the issues we are currently facing today. Fox needed to do a much better job of marketing this show which is probably why the ratings were so low. I am very disappointed it is being cancelled and equally disappointed in the promotion or lack there of of this show. I sincerely hope Fox reconsiders or it gets picked up by another network.
I’m so disappointed. I loved Shots Fired! It was one of the best shows on at the moment and very relevant! This kind of thing happens all over. I think its a travesty it will not be renewed! However just like one of the DOJ actresses said in the show race makes people uncomfortable and to leave that part out, well my opinion is that’s exactly why it won’t be renewed because it makes too many people uncomfortable, especially the high powered white people and corrupt police all over America so its better to sweep it under the rug instead… Read more »

This was excellent thought and discussion provoking television. I wish Fox had done a better job promoting the series. These actors were perfect and I would love to see what becomes of the characters. We need more entertainment that educates as well as entertains. Please consider a second season.

I was shocked and deeply sadden to hear about the cancellation of shots fired. What’s wrong with the powers that be that they can’t recognize the greatness of a tv show like the one we had the pleasure of witnessing . I heard through word of mouth about Shots Fired from my friends it could have benefited more through more advertisement . I looked forward to Wednesday’s every week and now it’s like suffering from a death in the family. Please make our family whole again.
