FOX drama Shots Fired won’t have a second season. The series creators have said they weren’t ruling out the possibility of a second season but it seems like there won’t be one.
The 10-part drama explores the tense aftermath of two racially charged shootings in a small North Carolina town. The cast includes Sanaa Lathan, Stephan James, Helen Hunt, Richard Dreyfuss, Will Patton, Aisha Hinds, Conor Leslie, and Stephen Moyer.
Not only was Shots Fired planned as a limited series, but the show’s ratings have been pretty poor. Season one, which wraps next Wednesday night, is averaging a 0.89 rating in the 18-49 demo and 3.56 million viewers. Still, the viewership numbers make the drama FOX‘s seventh most-watched scripted series for the 2016-2017 season.
Earlier, creators Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood said there’s always a chance for a second season down the line.
Word has been that the series wasn’t going to be coming back. Both a network spokesperson and Prince-Bythewood have confirmed that May 24th’s season finale will also be the show’s series finale.

I’m pissed. One of the most significant shows currently on television… Not to mention, a really phenomenal cast. For me if this show is actually being cancelled, speaks volumn
This show obviously was too real to be on FOX! This was one of the best all around shows on TV, it had a great subject, good acting and it just felt so real. I guess we’ll be bombarded by some stupid comedy or other now, huh? SMDH

I’m really into the show. It’s better than any other show during the same time. The network used any excuse to cancel Shots fired and Rosewood. I hope the show is shopped to a cable network. And the networks wonder why people are turning to cable t.v. and streaming.
Oh wait a minute Rosewood is not returning either?? Omg I love that show. Although I was wondering where it would go after the finale with Villa leaving but I figured they would work her in somehow.
I watch this show faithfully and when it starts getting good fox has to cancel it. I wanted it to have another season to find out about her daughter and those cops
They need to keep this show! It’s about the only show I watch faithfully. It deals with the real issues being faced today. Come on Fox!
There are not many shows that I make time to watch because my work day does not end until I go to bed. This show has everything that happens in a day of anyone’s life. If it didn’t happen to you you know someone that it happened to. The story line pulls you in because this is whats real in our society. Complex manipulations because the culprits want to be free but the pit bull mentality of the female investigator with the messed up personal life along with the “know it all” lead investigator. Please this is a very good show. Real life drama that happen everyday. I’m truly hurt can’t we try another station? Everybody needs to look at this show, it’s a lot to be learned from this show. I’m truly upset about this one.
I personally have not seen the show but fox has an history of cancelling good shows, from the premise sounds like the reality hitting of dear white people show based off the movie, yes some of those situations are blown out and are wtf why did they say or do that. I say if you dont like it dont watch it not every door is for you.
