Will the music play on for Sun Records? The CMT TV show recently finished its first season, but what about a second? If renewed, would you keep watching the series?
Based on real events, the music drama follows record producer Sam Phillips (Chad Michael Murray) as he shepherds young musicians Johnny Cash (Kevin Fonteyne), Elvis Presley (Drake Milligan), Carl Perkins (Dustin Ingram) and Jerry Lee Lewis (Christian Lees). The cast also includes Trevor Donovan, Keir O’Donnell, Jennifer Holland, Margaret Anne Florence, and Kerry D. Holliday.
The chances of a renewal for Sun Records are uncertain. The show premiered to a decent rating (for a CMT show) of 0.20 in the 18-49 demo and 971,000 viewers. However, the ratings fell considerably over the course of the eight episodes.
Overall, season one averaged a rating of 0.13 in the 18-49 demo and 585,000 viewers. That’s a considerable drop for a new series on a network that is new to scripted programming. Will CMT risk another season? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
What do you think? Have you seen Sun Records? Do you think the show should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you watch?
5/5 update: CMT has decided there won’t be a second season of Sun Records. Details here.
it takes me back. the first LP I ever bought was johnny cash on sun, old railroad and jailhouse songs I still know them all by heart. I could go on and on
please bring it back. this is must know information/history of the birth of r&r, the good and the shady. I wish I would have recorded the series. it’s not even on the on demand. i’ll buy whatever product sponsors season 2.
Loved, Loved, Loved it. Please continue it.
Loved it, need to finish all the greats
Loved it, need to finish all the greats
I was hoping this show would be renewed. It’s one of the best shows on tv.
Yes I would keep watching sun records, in fact I’ve been waiting on the return of season 2

We loved it and looked forward to watching it. All the good shows we like don’t last long. Please bring it back
We watch every show and enjoyed it very much. Was disappointed when the show stopped airing–thought it had been canceled. Bring it back-it’s one of the stories of our teen years.
Very disappointed about there not being a Season 2! Wish CMT would reconsider.
I absolutely would watch the second season. I love music and music history. I like that dramatic feel of the show and would only hope that there would be more music. After all, that’s how it was pitched to us viewers. So please, add another season. I will dvr it every week. I promise.
I loved this show. I have been waiting for Season 2. I have told so many friends to watch! So disappointed!
YES, please bring back season 2, 3, 4, etc…finally something interesting to watch other than ‘reality’ shows & then take it off air. I actually looked forward to Thursday nights to watch tv, hadn’t done that in years. Put it back on tv & give people time to catch on. Sun Records was taken off air about the time chatter started circulating about the show.
If CMT does not have a season 2 I will bid CMT good riddance the same as I did the local AM stations that played Lester Scruggs and Earl Flat in the 50,s.
