Well, that didn’t take long. The CW network has cancelled their new drama, The Beautiful Life, after just two airings.
Co-produced by Ashton Kutcher, The Beautiful Life revolves around a pair of teenagers who have just entered the cut throat world of high-fashion, secretive Raina Mayer (Sara Paxton) and farmboy Chris Andrews (Benjamin Hollingsworth). The series also stars Mischa Barton, Elle Macpherson, Ashley Madekwe, Nico Tortorella, and Corbin Bleu.
The series debuted last Wednesday to just 1.46 million viewers and a 0.7/2 rating/share in the 18-49 demographic. That put the premiere in last place for the hour and also represented a loss of almost 50% of the audience from lead-in America’s Next Top Model.

This week, the ratings for the second episode came in even lower. Beautiful Life drew only 1.09 million people and a terrible 0.5/1 in the targeted demographic. That represents a 60% loss of the lead-in audience. It was also beaten by a repeat of Magic’s Biggest Secrets Revealed on My Network TV.
To little surprise, the CW network has decided to cut their losses and cancel the drama. They’ve pulled it from the schedule effective immediately and production was shut down earlier today. According to THR, the cast and crew were in the midst of filming the seventh episode. The drama is the latest in a line series that have been paired with Top Model and failed.
For the immediate future, the network will try to generate more interest in struggling freshman series Melrose Place by airing repeats in Beautiful Life’s timeslot.
What do you think? Should the show have been cancelled? Is the series not worth watching or did the network miss an opportunity to make it work?
i can’t believe they cancelled this show! I have been looking forward to mischa barton and over-the-top drama since i saw it was coming. BRING IT BACK!
[quote by Anonymous] “WHAT I LOVED that show…I always watched it online and I thought it was a great hit!!!” That’s part of the problem. When you only watch a show online and not on tv, it doesn’t get the ratings. And ratings are important because advertisers aren’t going to pay for the time-slot of a show that’s not getting any views. Too those who said to save it, it’s stupid to save a show that nobody wants to watch. Obviously you all are in the minority because nobody else was watching it. Why keep a show that most people… Read more »
This show was going to be good, but the cw didn’t even give them a shot… bring it back please…
I LOVED the show…this is crap!!!
WHAT I LOVED that show…I always watched it online and I thought it was a great hit!!!
I thought that this show was getting good. I don’t have television so I wasn’t a viewer but i watched both episodes online (does the CW take into account the number of people who watch the show online only?) and I really enjoyed it. I don’t think that CW even gave the show the chance to succeed; they should at least show the other episodes that are completed.
i love this show even mischa barton its crazy to cacell it take melrose place off that show sucks. major! take americas next top model off those models never even get anywhere anyways. man cw sucks.
i luv this show!!…save it!…and Misha Barton is the best!
Long as CW has Dawn Ostroff running the train, it’s gonna get derailed often. Her sole demo target is young women, & there’s simply too much TV competition for that demo to have a whole net devoted to attracting them. Unless the CW makes soem RADICAL changes SOON, beginning with replacing Ostroff, it’s doomed. Sometimes she makes an NBC-esque goof as that net did with “Joey”, thinking that, just cuz some of their suits liked it, it would eventually attract an acceptable viewership & so kept airing it to a shrinking viewership, or, she does just the opposite, dumping a… Read more »
no surprise there. the premise sucked. the “Actors” can’t act (suck), and no one really cares about the life of models.
see they cxl a good show like the game that was carring it’s weight now….. look I hope the whole network goes under, and am white and liked the game yea!!!! bring it back cw u dummies
r u kidding me i love this show..take misha barton off!
I expected this show to get cancelled, but after two airings? CW’s just not trying.
Just want to say, I never saw the show, but what could the network expect when airing it in arguably the toughest timeslot of the week. Against Criminal Minds, Modern Family, Cougar Town, SVU, and Especially Glee, of course no one would turn in!
I LOVED this show. It was a guilty pleasure and I can’t believe the CW is starting to act like Fox in that they are canceling good shows just because of low ratings. When are networks going to stop using the Nielsen ratings? It’s ridiculous. SAVE THIS SHOW!!
