The brave officers of The Chicago Code fight for what’s right in their fair city. Unfortunately, that battle doesn’t attract enough viewers to keep their TV show on the air. FOX has cancelled the cop show after one season.
Created by The Shield’s Shawn Ryan, The Chicago Code revolves around the officers of the Chicago Police Department. Veteran detective Jarek Wysocki (Jason Clarke) leads a special unit that fights against crime and corruption in the windy city. Others in the cast include Jennifer Beals, Matt Lauria, Devin Kelley, Todd Williams, Billy Lush, and Delroy Lindo.
The series debuted to an okay 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.43 million total viewers. In week two, it dropped 17% in the demo and the ratings kept dropping in subsequent weeks.

On May 2nd, The Chicago Code hit a series low with a meager 1.6 in the demo and 5.59 million viewers. Last Monday’s episode bumped up to a 1.7 rating but that’s still far from a good number.
Looking at FOX season averages, the cop TV series is the second lowest-rated drama still on the air (after Fringe on Friday nights).
FOX has now decided to cancel The Chicago Code after one season and 13 episodes. The remaining two unaired episodes will air on the next two Mondays, May 12th and May 23rd.
Ryan reacted on Twitter by writing, “Fox suits loved the show, but have a business to run.”
What do you think? Are you sorry there won’t be a second season? Why do you think this TV series didn’t catch on?

Bummer! I’d wish there was something like that.
Cancelling Chicago Code is just wrong. Once Chicago Code is cancelled I refuse to support Fox anymore. Keep Chicago Code!
It was one of the best cop shows on. You needed to give it more time, like a good wine.
best cop show ever. The people at Fox are making a big mistake.
You guys feel the same way I do. Finally, a show that actually seems real. I guess americans just don’t have the capacity for good television. Turn on Law & Order, and you would think that white people are the only ones in this country that commit crimes. Chicago Code broke that p.c. barrier. I am really bummed about this.
This is a huge mistake. The first cop show in years without ridiculous non-existent technology and an actual running plot line throughout the season and it gets cancelled. Hbo or showtime should buy the rights, and then this show into something awesome.
Lets show FOX what we think about cancelling The Chicago Code! Help get everyone you know to watch the final episodes. http://on.fb.me/jsyZwS
I have to agree with most of the other comments on this page. I hate getting into a show, and then finding out that it has been cancelled. It does seem like Fox has a bad habit of not giving their shows a chance to catch on. It really makes me not want to watch Fox, because it seem inevidible that I am going to fall in love with a TV Series. Then without any concern for their fans, they cancel the series. It makes me want to scream. I am glad they are thinking about giving Break In another… Read more »
Really disappointed…..too few well written shows on tv…..this one was the exception. My daughter and I will boycott Fox henceforth.
I was truly shocked to hear that this show will not return next season. It is so well written, acted and the storylines were so interesting, I could not wait until the next show was on. I luv Jennifer Beals and she was excellent in this show along with all of the other actors. It is one of the few shows I watch on FOX. I do not understand why FOX would cancel this show, but renew cartoon crap like the Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burger. These shows tell alot about the dimwitted FOX executives and the garbage they… Read more »
I’m so tired of Fox. What is the point of getting viewers hooked on a show if they are just going to cancel it. Why can’t they move it to a cable network? Arg…I’m so pissed off. I LOVE that show.
This was the best cop show on tv in more than a decade. The characters were interesting the plot sucked you in. These are the same idiots that cancelled Firefly. Firefly wasn’t giving the initial ratings they wanted so they cancelled it. It became a DVD sleeper hit as more people became aware of its awesome story and they made a movie because of the demand. Fox again will lose here. As word of mouth spreads I bet this would’ve created a huge DVD following. Someone at Fox needs to be fired, period.
I really liked this show and am very disappointed to see it go off the air!
This is a multi-layered drama with complex characters and a stuningly unusual and honest depiction of race, class and sexuality. It offers no easy answers and is apparently above the head of the average bear. What a bloody shame to lose it.
I am so disappointed. We watch three tv shows: Fringe, Chicago Code and Justified. I hope the makers of good television dramqa stop shopping their shows to Fox, because other networks wouldn’t treat them so shabbily.
