Bones has been a quiet hit for FOX but the same can’t be said for its spin-off, The Finder. FOX has now cancelled the low-rated series after one season.
The Finder is a procedural series that revolves around a man (Geoff Stults) with the extraordinary ability to help people find the unfindable. Other castmembers include Maddie Hasson, Mercedes Masohn, and Michael Clarke Duncan.
The spin-off debuted on January 12th to a disappointing 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.50 million total viewers. It was fourth in its Thursday night timeslot right out of the gate and lost nearly 30% of the all-important demo from its compatible lead-in, Bones. This was not a good start.

Things picked up a bit in the following weeks, thanks in large part to the show having FOX’s blockbuster American Idol as a lead-in. Still, the numbers weren’t as high as they should have been.
After seven weeks on the air, FOX put Finder on hiatus and then moved it to Friday nights, giving its Thursday timeslot to Touch. If The Finder could maintain a healthy percentage of its viewers after the switch, it would likely garner a renewal.
But that didn’t happen and Finder’s numbers dropped like a rock. In its first Friday airing, the freshman series attracted a 1.1 demo rating — an episode-to-episode loss of 53% — with just 4.03 million viewers. The numbers for future episodes fluctuated a bit but didn’t really get any more encouraging. The network could do just as well or better by running cheaper reality programming.
The season finale of The Finder is set to air this Friday night and there won’t be any episodes after that. Hopefully the producers saw the writing on the wall early enough and won’t leave viewers hanging with any major unresolved storylines.
What do you think? What went wrong with this show? Why do you think The Finder failed to attract a bigger audience? Was cancelling the series the right decision? How would you have fixed it?
My son and I thought it was great and couldn’t understand why it didn’t make a go of it. It was a good feel program that made you feel like there was people in their life that cared what happened to other people in the world. We loved it and would like to see it back. I feel too that it wasn’t advertised because I too didn’t know about it until I saw it on Netflix.
There was nothing wrong with the show! Really wished it had not been cancelled as we just discovered it on Netflix and have watched every episode. What show was it up against when first aired?
i too just found this show on netflix and i love it. it must not have had good exposure through advertisement bc if it had, i would have watched on fox. wish they would bring it back
I agree with all of the above comments too. My daughter and I loved this show. We were sad when Micheal Clarke Duncan passes also. He was such a good actor and I am sure a great person. What if they replaced his character with a male character from his past? Like write in a long lost brother or son? Idk…food for thought. It needed to be advertised better. And I agree with too much reality crap on TV. Ugh. I will be on board if anyone can find a way to get the network to do a Season 2.

You could put is brother, Langston, in to replace Mr. Duncan who could have died tragically in a car accident and they have to find the hit and run driver.
Bring it back I watched it loved it bring it back
This was a great show I watched it on Netflix bring it back guys
I loved this show and from reading a few of the other comments above I’m not the only one! I agree The Finder probably had poor advertisin because I also had no idea it was out there until it hit Netflix. But once I found it I watch all 13 episodes in two days! I was completely hooked. I really enjoy the mystery quality to each finding case and I fell in love with Walter, Leo and Willa by episode 3! I even enjoyed the gypsy crazieness! I don’t know where I was when Fox was putting The Finder to… Read more »
Me too, just found this on Netflix. What a great season finale. Really bought into the characters, don’t know what they would do without Michael Clarke Duncan, but I wish they could figure out something. C’mon Netflx, you’re in the business of bringing shows back to life! Do it one more time.
I agree with all the above. Who in their right mind would prefer all that reality JUNK/GARBAGE? This was a entertaining show, not bad language, not full of typical Hollywood garbage..a great family program…..no doom and gloom…the good guys come out on top…Hollywood just can’t seem to put out good stuff much these days…..except the NCIS and CSI series. Even this was a really wonderful program…Criminal Minds gets pretty gory…had to quit watching it. But this, was wonderful PLEASE BRING IT BACK.
This show must not have been advertised properly. I never heard of it until watching it on netflix. I thought it was great -wish there was more! Very disappointed there’s only one season. Fox may have got the demographics wrong.
I think it didn’t do well, because it wasn’t advertised. I never heard of it until I found it on Netflix and it’s an amazing show!

I just tuned into the show and really enjoyed same. I am sorry it wasn’t followed up with a second season. And, the directors left it. With many questions. Why NOT AMC? TOO BAD.
This was a quality show. Entertaining, playful and smartly executed.
It should be given another season on Netflix. It’s gaining in popularity and completely binge worthy.
Time for Netflix to pick this up.
