This evening, FOX released some new changes to their schedule that will take effect in the next couple weeks. One of the changes involves The Finder leaving the schedule. Will it be back, get a second season, or has the show actually been cancelled?
A spin-off of Bones, The Finder debuted on January 12th to a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.5 million total viewers. It was in fourth place for the timeslot and lost 29% of the Bones lead-in audience. It was hardly a great start for the new show.
In week two, with powerhouse American Idol as a lead-in, The Finder drew a 2.2 in the demo with 6.58 million. While that was a nice improvement over the first week’s numbers, the show actually lost a whopping 61% of the lead-in’s demo.
In week three, The Finder rose to a 2.8 in the demo and 8.44 million, losing 49% of the lead-in’s demo. For the last three weeks, The Finder’s ratings have dropped lower each week. Last Thursday’s episode hit a 2.0 with 6.18 million, losing 56% of the Idol demo.
While each show is ultimately judged on its own ratings, FOX can not be pleased that Idol is delivering a huge number of viewers and more than half of them are making a conscious decision to turn the channel. It’s become clear, especially based on the most recent numbers, that The Finder would almost certainly tank without having a big lead-in. They’ve given the series the best possible lead-in they have and it just doesn’t measure up. Touch will take over the coveted spot once Finder is gone.
The Finder is set to leave the schedule in two weeks, on March 8th. At that point, there will be five unaired episodes remaining and FOX has noted that the show will return later in the season. While that may be true, it looks highly unlikely that the network will want to invest in a second season.
But, what do you think? Should The Finder be renewed for season two or should FOX just cancel it? Why do you think more people aren’t watching?

My wife and I love the show. It is fun and quirky. Nothing quite like it and would be bummed if it doesnt come back. Maybe it is a “summer” show. Try it then before dumping it.
The Finder is a great show! The problem is that the networks don’t give a show the time to build up a following. They stick good show into a time slot and try to knock off a show that has been on long enough to have a following. Quit bumping great show around from night to night so no one knows when it is on and just put it in a good time slot to begin with.
The Finder is a piece of garbage and not worth another hour of my life.
Just cancel it and be done with it.
The writing is really bad and the acting just as bad…..
If it isn’t worth your time, don’t watch it. No one’s strapping you to a chair, keeping your eyelids open, and forcing you to give hours of your life to it. That said, I’m not a huge fan of the show myself. It’s grown on me and I’d like to see the characters’ stories play out, but I won’t be heartbroken if this is the end.
I believe that a lot of the problem came from the Willa story. I will admit that I almost stopped watching because I found that story to be useless and annoying. However that has changed. I love Willas character now. I do not believe that FOX should cancel the Finder, it is an excellent smart show, with a fun group of Characters. Many shows have trouble finding their feet at the beginning. I think that with House leaving this year people will be looking for a new show, and I believe many will find the Finder.
A little series named “Cheers” premiered with the worst rating of any show (77th of 77). The rest of the season didn’t do much better. It wasn’t until it’s reruns in the summer, that it caught on and ended up being one of the greater shows in the history of TV. Now imagine if a show did that today (especially on FOX and NBC….not the NBC I grew up with that stuck with Cheers), how long would it last? Now I’m not saying “The Finder” will wind up being one of the greater shows of all time….but I do enjoy… Read more »
The Finder sucks. Bad scripting, poor acting, characters that you just don’t give a hoot about–this show has reeked of failure since day one.
This is such an incredible show! I seriously hope they keep it around.
This is what I was talking about. They are ending a great show while their new shows aren’t doing so good. Morons!!! This is why I said I was done with fox.
if you are referencing House ending I highly doubt that was Fox’s decision, pretty sure Hugh Laurie’s contract was up and they must not have been able to convince him to come back (he is from England after all and his family is back there, etc.)
there’s a lot you can blame Fox for but House ending is not one of those things
I strongly disagree with that. Hugh may have had something to do with it, but they are cheap, just look at the x factor, doing so many competion shows now. They won’t spend a penny more than they have to.
Yeah this is Fox for you ! . The Finder is a great show and if they are gonna have 5 unaired episodes why don’t they just use them up instead of delying it and putting Touch in it’s place. Seems like they don’t wanna kep the good shows around. They need to keep this show around, with House ending this could be move to Mondays . People that watch it online are gonna get this canceled . Don’t you understand you need to watch it on tv show they keep it around.
I enjoy watching the Finder…..the lead in of American Idol doesn’t make any difference to me…I don’t watch that….I tune in for The Finder, I wouldn’t be upset at all if they dropped American Idol!
My DVR records the Finder and Person of Interest at that time. Whichever I don’t watch live, I watch at a later time.
I have enjoyed The Finder quite a bit. I don’t think Fox should be surprised that the show loses most of the Idol lead in. I don’t think Idol watchers are the same audience that would enjoy The Finder. I actually expect most shows that follow Idol to drop a lot of the audience, because most Fox shows are not targeted to the same audience as Idol. Maybe Glee would do well and possibly New Girl, but that would be about it.
Quite frankly, the way the networks are moving all the shows around, I’m surprised everybody hasn’t given up and gone to Netflix or Amazon and watched movies lately. This show had a weak beginning – which is not unusual – if NCIS was introduced today, what are the odds it would have made it??? However, I like the lead character, so I kept watching. It has improved considerably, but the damage has already been done. I’d truly like to see it continue because it’s starting to find it’s “story,” but the ADD Networks these days don’t have the patience to… Read more »

They should keep it around! I want to see how several of the story lines play out.
