TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

Keep it, please. Love the cast and the fantasy. We need more shows like these. Plus, I’m still stinging from the Perception cancellation.
i am sick of this every time i get into a new show it ends up getting axed wtf i am so mad at them its come to now do i watch the show or not bother as it might not get far or get axed half way through and cant believe some of the shows that have been cancelled perception was a brilliant show as were loads of others it makes me sick when will they stop axing great show and keeping crap ones it should be the other way around

I absolutely love this show.
I LOVE the Library! And ALL of the Librarians! PLEASE bring it back! It’s so much fun and creative. It’s so unique and different from everything else on TV right now. A great escape from the normal day-to-day.
This show is entertaining and I love the gadgets and magic they encounter and want to keep following this special mix of characters and their unusual adventures. I really look forward to seeing Christian Kane and John Laroquette every week. Plus, what’snot to like about an Australian Asian thief? 🙂

It should be renewed. I hate when shows only get one season. It doesn’t give them a real chance. Too many times have great shows ended too early. (Firefly, terranova…) I think they should give a show 2 seasons at least before pulling the plug on it. Its a cute show that I enjoy. I think them showing two hours of it almost every week is what hurt it because other shows come on people have to choose and the older shows will win out plus with two hours it gets a little old.
