TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
This is my favorite new show. It takes itself seriously but so brings the camp.
Keep it going! Such a blessing to have something fun to get lost in for an hour. It doesn’t make me feel like my brain cells are dying like reality tv does. It doesn’t make me cringe at all the violence from the world like some shows do by twisting current events into an episode. Love just being able to sit back and enjoy a show and laugh and root for the good guys.
Keep it! Love this show!
I love this show! It has replaced Leverage which was my favorite and was canceled. I hope that you keep the Librarians. Ohhh and add lots of Christian Kane with his shirt off.
The Librarians is a must keep show! It’s a show the whole family can enjoy! We want a season 2!
keep! Keep! KEEP! More Please! If it’s s film or television, it should allow us to enjoy the adventure. The Librarians has delivered above and beyond that!
Great show. Look forward to many more seasons.
KEEP IT!!! its awesome 🙂
Definitely renew! It’s an entertaining show that doesn’t take itself too seriously (but in a good way). I loved the movies and I think the show picks up and carries out the world of The Library in the same fun, magical, tongue-in-cheek way.
Renew the Librarians for multiple seasons! It has been a long time since I looked as forward to a show as much as I did this one. I love watching The Librarians! TNT – keep it, please!
I cant wait for the next season!
The Librarians is the best on the networks. Love the show it is definitely a keeper.
KEEP.
Please keep the show on the air! My husband and I both love the show!
I think it is a great show and it is family friendly. It has so much potential, and I love that the filming is in oregon.
