TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Keep it! It’s a fun show!
Please keep this show, it is funny, fun and I love many of the actors in it. (Hello Christian Kane!!!) I like that Noah Wylie makes appearances, but that the show doesn’t live for just him. They set it up so that the other “Librarians” did one thing while he did another, and they did a good job of it.
Please keep! I love it. It’s different from what has been and is currently on TNT!! Who doesn’t love some magic?!
Definitely another season of The Librarians!
keep, keep, keep. Fun show…we love watching it
Please keep this show. We love it and have rewatched every episode!
I love this show. It is fun and entertaining. I think it deserves to be renewed and perhaps a new time slot. When you are running it opposite Sunday Football and The Walking Dead, you aren’t really giving it an awesome start. This is the best thing to come out of TNT in years.
Please keep this show! 🙂
Please keep the Librarians!!! Love this show!!!
Keep, keep, keep
must keep fantastic show
Keep keep keep… Please!!!!
Dear God, let’s keep The Librarians. It is the only thing on the tellie that is entertaining. All they have is drugs, guns, terrorists, or the stuff that isn’t good for the children, but this is actually educational. It will really be bad if they cancel it.
The Finale was really good. I love how they bring all the characters together.
Please renew The Librarians for a second season
