HBO has finally gotten around to renewing The Newsroom for a third season but it’s mixed blessing for fans. The cable channel has announced that the show will end with season three.
Here’s their press release:
HBO’S EMMY®-WINNING DRAMA SERIES The Newsroom TO BEGIN PRODUCTION ON THIRD AND FINAL SEASON
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 13, 2014 – The Emmy®-winning HBO drama series The Newsroom will begin production on its third and final season this spring, with debut slated for fall, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming.
“The Newsroom is classic Aaron Sorkin – smart, riveting and thought-provoking,” said Lombardo. “I’m sure this farewell season will be one to remember.”
Created by showrunner Aaron Sorkin (Oscar® winner for writing “The Social Network,” executive producer and creator of the multiple Emmy® winner “The West Wing”), The Newsroom follows the members of a cable news team on their quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of a fickle audience, corporate mandates and tangled personal relationships. Sorkin, Scott Rudin and Alan Poul return as executive producers, with Paul Lieberstein (“The Office”) joining the show as an executive producer.
Returning cast regulars include Jeff Daniels (who received an Emmy® in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the show last September), Emily Mortimer, Sam Waterston, John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel and Olivia Munn.
What do you think? Are you a fan of this series? re you sorry that there will only be three seasons?
Very disappointed.
I’m the interviews with Aaron Sirkin that I have seen, it appears that it is he who wanted to end the series.
Either he felt the series had run it’s course or he had other projects going on or both.
I will miss it and saddened that it will end with two more episodes. I have know idea how everything can be tied up that soon. We will see. I’ll miss the characters I have come to like.
Like most pure and evolving works of art, the greates pain will come from not knowing when or where the cieling would have been hit for this show. The writing, cast and acting creates an immense amount of chemistry. The genius was evolving within each new show. I’m shocked that executives couldn’t see the bigger picture. EVERYONE I speak to whom has watched this show is in awe of the comedic yet dramatic chemistry. HBO has missed the mark o this one.
I love this show! I love the characters !! I love the story lines ! Smart funny honest
can’t believe this is the end. Smart, well written shows are hard to come by and this show perfectly filled the bill… What a mistake!
