ABC won’t be making its official announcement until tomorrow but the axe has already fallen for midseason’s The Unusuals.
The dramady revolves around a dysfunctional but effective group of New York City cops. The series features the talents of Amber Tamblyn, Jeremy Renner, Harold Perrineau, Joshua Close, Monique Gabriela Curnen, Kai Lennox, Terry Kinney, Adam Goldberg, Ryan O’Nan, Ian Kahn, Kat Foster, Heather Burns, Robert Funaro, and George Aloi.
The ABC show debuted on April 8th to a disappointing 6.83 million viewers and a 2.1/6 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers fell to 6.01 million and a 1.8/5. The network tried a different timeslot but the numbers were worse and subsequently fell to a terrible 4.74 million and a 1.4/4.
Though ABC really wanted to find a new cop drama, it became pretty clear that this one wasn’t going to be it. The network has opted to cancel The Unusuals rather than order a second year.
Their official schedule will be announced tomorrow but show creator Noah Hawley has already been informed that the show is dead.
He twittered, “Friends, just heard The Unusuals will not be back for a second season. Thanks for all your amazing support.” He later wrote, “It’s a tough loss.”
There are four episodes left in season one and ABC will begin airing them next week, on May 27th.

I really liked this show. Great characters, funny stories, and awesome music. Too bad abc dropped this show. I got rid of my tv this summer and i really don’t see any shows on abc’s website that i will be watching now.
I don’t understand why you are cancelling this delightful progrom! It had indcredilbel writing and a wonderful cast…geez give it a chance!
Hopefully another network will pick this up and re-vamp it a little. Maybe go the ole NYPD formula with the bare ass or side breast and keep the off beat humor, are you listening FOX!
one of the best shows of the season but of course no one will get behind it
and help out as usual love a show think its great and they pull the plug
of course they do this all of the time thats why Im watching more reality
it stays
Must say that I am really disappointed. The characters made me laugh and were well acted. Do we really need another “reality” show? ABC dropped the ball on this one….
I loved the show. I watch it online all the time. I had been checking for the new episodes for the last two weeks, and I wondered why ther were not loaded. so, I googled it just to know that the show was cancelled. So, disappointing! The only good show from ABC and it is cancelled.
Really enjoyed the Unusuals. Sad ABC gave up so soon
WHAT?? I loved this show!! looked forward to it every week! Please bring it back or sell it to FOX or USA
Agin ABC lets me down by cancelling a clever show.
Figures, we missed the first two episodes. We finally watched and fell in love with this quirky group. Fun plots and lots of action.
Too bad others didn’t catch on to this before ABC cancelled this show. Guess I’ll go back to watching the cable channels, only ones with guts to let a show mature.
I have to agree with C. Corrigall! Why do you t.v. “big shots” believe that everyone likes to watch your “reality” shows?? Many times you “big shots” put a series on the air, get the american public hooked, then bam, you cancel another good series. Why not give series a chance? i know of 4 series now that have been cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons. You really should give them more of a chance!! I know the simpsons are on fox, but for god’s sake, how long have they been on the air? and that’s a show that should… Read more »
Very disappointed. this show is very enjoyable. This was a nice quirky show with good actors, great script and “unusual” plots. This is not a typical cop show. It’ has some similarities to Monk and Closer, with a touch of Hill Street Blues. Hopefully, some smart soul on cable will pick up this show, show it at an earlier time – like 8 or 9 – instead of 10, and give it some good publicity. Then we can all sit back and watch one of the best shows on TV.
I loved this show… Why dont they give something a chance before they cancel it. It was different… unusual… that what was good about it…
This just figures – I said to my husband after the first episode of The Unusuals, that it would be cancelled – it was obviously too good! What is wrong with you TV “big shots”? When are you going to figure out that you can subsidize some quality shows with the rest of the (successful) crap you run? For once, show some guts – run a second season – there’s a good possibility you might actually find an audience. Not all of us want to be force fed a steady diet of “reality” television. Hill Street Blues, St. Elsewhere and… Read more »
ABC IS EPIC FAIL
