To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

Truly beleive football killed Three Rivers. Couldn’t stay up to see it as it was always delayed by football……could not tape it as how do you know when to tape…..work with 20 others who said they had the same problem. How do we let the network know? Put it on another night……not after football.
I really enjoyed the programand would like to see it return.
They should quit showing os many football game. Or show them on another chanel.
Definitely a football problem. Most times that I went to watch it, it had been delayed. I really like the show but wasn’t able to see it.
We really enjoyed this program and would like to see it return.
Alex O’Loughlin has had bad luck on television so far, first Moonlight and now Three Rivers. I loved both shows because Alex O’Loughlin is a fine actor and easy on the eyes. Come back . . . please come back!
need new night sunday nite football always ran late and could never tell when three rivers was going to be on.
The only way that i would ever forgive CBS for canceling Three Rivers is that they bring back MOONLIGHT!
I absolutely LOVED this show and am very dissappointed that it may be a short-lived series. I had my recorder set for the series. Is there anything we can do to get CBS to put it back on the air? Why don’t they pick a different day for the show…you cannot compete with football.
I really like Three Rivers and hope CBS will give it another chance. Any show will have bad raings on a night it has to go against an NFL game. I also partly agraa with Barb above, GET RID OF ALL THESE STUPID REALITY SHOWS, they may be cheap to produce however, I think THEY ALL STINK, including Survivor, American Idol and the Amazing Race et al.
Thee rivers was a great show it was nice to see a show that was heartwarming.
I think they should have put it on after the football season since football goes into overtime alot. i am very disapointed.
This was a great show and I am very disappointed that there is a possibility that it will be canceled. When this show first aired it had to compete with Sunday football and the amazing race. The amazing race has been on for a some years now and is a popular show. Plus, football always messes with the times of shows that are supposed to be on after the game. I feel with giving Three Rivers another try, on a different day, you will see better ratings. I think CBS will make a very awful mistake if they cancel Three… Read more »
I agree with one of the other postings, get rid of reality shows. They are annoying and nobody cares how these people live their lives. Just bring back Moonlight.
What a stupid move on the part of CBS! You’d think they’d have learned after first cancelling Moonlight, Alex’s first show. The biggest problem is that football runs over, then they MUST show 60 Minutes IN IT’S ENTIRETY (God forbid they should ever pre-empt that!), then you have to suffer through another waste of time, The Amazing Race (a stupider show I have NEVER seen and that’s saying something when TV is dominated by pseudo-reality shows), then finally you may get to see a show of quality like Three Rivers! I used to watch Cold Case every week until it… Read more »
Delphine and I enjoyed the show so much. We are very disappointed in the cancellation. I told her that I would google and see what info I would get. I hate its has been cancelled.
This show was one of the best new shows I have seen. It got bad numbers due to the time slot, nothing else. Give it a chance.
