To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

100% agree with Rita….really enjoyed Three Rivers…great show the entire family could watch….soooo tired of all of the csi type dramas…seems all the shows on are same ole same ole; just different actors- different location-Boring!!…Three Rivers was great, it had it all, it was intriguing, entertaining, refreshing, family friendly…. finally something worth watching on TV. Please bring it back!!!…if not we will just have to turn the tv completely off and play Wii!!!
I am very disappointed in CBS for their choice in canceling Three Rivers. This show is a great opportunity to get a very important message to millions of people in regard to organ donation. Many people are afraid to consent to organ donation because they think doctors will not try as hard to save their lives when they are in a critical situation. I applaud the writers for telling both sides of the story and wish they had the opportunity to continue; there is a lot left to say. As for the poor ratings, how can you expect viewers to… Read more »
I cannot believe you would cancel “Three Rivers.” We loved this shows. First you took away “Moonlight” with Alex O’Laughlin and now this. I am getting disgusted with CBS. How about cancelling some on the inane shows like “Survivor”, “The Last Race”, “The Bing Bang Theory”, etc. These shows are so stupid. Whoever makes these decisions must be the dumbest person on the planet.
what happen to television it’s untrust worthy. I talk to alot of people and especially the old school feel your on drugs. The people of the past had respect and morals. The had great manners. If it works don’t fix. Everybody was happy when I was young. You can count on the network working together you new they were in tune with nature everything worked including schedule time. They didn’t keep you in the dark about a series. The people today drive u crazy and always full of chaos it’s bad enough the economy is bad know the one think… Read more »
Sunday night football killed 3 rivers… It needs to be given another chance. Not only because it is a wonderful show with a lot of interesting characters, but because it educates the masses on much needed organs for those that have a chance to live, if given it.. It is not right to just toss it out because I record my shows and lost so many due to football! I quit recording it once I saw it was on demand and I could watch it from there. It is a wonderful show that is getting the raw end of the… Read more »
I was very dedicated and really looked forward to watching Three Rivers show on CBS every Sunday night. I am a kidney transplant patient and was very interested in this show. So true to life in the transplant world. I actually learned a lot, too. The actors were fantastic! There were actually people in the U.S. who decided to become organ donors after watching this show. It is such a shame it is no longer on TV. Please bring this show back, CBS – maybe in a different time slot and maybe different day? Thank you in advance!!

I agree with these negative comments. All the good ones are taken off and some stupid reality show or sports are put in their place. Loved Moonlight, that ended up being the Peoples Choice Award, and what happened – cancelled. Why are we paying all of this money to watch TV when nothing is on. Pretty darn sad if you ask me. I’m almost afraid to watch any new show because it will be cancelled. I love Cold Case when it came on, but now it is getting old. Also the same with CSI. Getting sooooo old.

Three Rivers ranked right up there with all of the other successful medical drama shows and beat many of them in many areas. I agree with Rita – dump the reality shows and give us some decent programming worth watching…Three Rivers being among them. Please bring it back!
loved the show, please bring it back
Please bring bakc Three Rivers! I really liked this show as did my family, I loved the story lines and the actors. I was very disappointed when I could not find it on TV. The network has made a mistake by cancelling this show.
I like the show Three River. Bring it back. I like Alex O’Loughlin , He was great in Moonlight. I love watching him.
I always DVR the shows I like to watch so I can watch them leisurely when I have the time. I recorded 8 of the Three Rivers shows, unfortunately my DVR does not know that the stupid football game ran late on 3 of the Sundays, so I only got the first 20-30 min of each of those shows and missed the end of those episodes. 3 of the other Sundays, it just wasn’t what was recorded, apparently because of the switching of Three Rivers and Cold Case time slots and also because of the Amazing Race which is a… Read more »
i think its a mistake my whole family loved that show and we are all very upset that they took it off the air its a great show i watched them all and they get u sucked in and then they stop the show….its not right thats one of the best new series i have watched…they need to put it back on the air
Only saw one episode. Didn’t think it was that bad. Moonlight is much better, though. They should at least do a movie to tie the loose ends in Moonlight. So much was left hanging at the end. Don’t think it can be brought back, but if it is, that’ll be great. Moonlight was the reason I started watching shows on Friday nights.
Three Rivers is one of the best show I have seen in a long time. I am sick and tired of nothing be on that is worth watching, especially the reality shows. Is there no one that can write a script for a good show any more? Does anyone have an imagination anymore without it being full of curse words, using four letter words and blood and gore? Where have all the good writers gone? Television programs are not worth watching any more and only getting worse for the most part. Then when a good one comes along you put… Read more »
I absolutely agree with Rita. Finally, a good show comes on, and the next thing you know – it’s gone. Same with The Unit. You have two shows with solid characters and you cancel them. I’m so sick of foul mouthed, violent, blood-oozing, sex-filled garbage. Cable is too expensive – at least give us something worth watching!
HELL YEAH PUT THREE RIVER BACK ON. I was so mad and angery that the show didn’t come on anymore. I was like What? That was a very great show with inspiration, determination, hopes and dreams of people getting a new beginning. This show gives people the inspiration about how giving transplants is a positive thing to do for others. The people who act are very good at what they do. I love this show so much I wish I could play a part in it, I want to be a part of Three Rivers, watching it every time it comes… Read more »
