To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

Three Rivers was one of the best shows CBS has had in years. Every time you put a show on I like you end up pulling it. I am so stick of the reality shows and the stupid junk that is on TV, at least Three Rivers was close to the reality of what it is like in real medical situations. If you want to keep people watching CBS, you need to bring back shows like Three Rives.
loved that show, it was good. hate to see it go, please bring it back.
I REALLY HATE TO HEAR THREE RIVER’S CANCELED. EVERYONE I TALKED WITH SEEMED TO REALLY LIKE IT. I THINK SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL HURT IT. I DON’T LIKE SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. SHAME ON ME, I HOPE THE FOOTBALL GODS DON’T GET ME.
Don’t worry I don’t think the football gods are gonna get you. Everything has it’s place. Three Rivers had it’s place but they didn’t give it a change to have a steady place. I know with out a shadow of a dought Three Rivers will, should and have a place and chance back on Tv again. Six billion people on the planet and I know that millions like football, but the other millions do like Three Rivers, Mark my word, on that, will that be with a Sharpie, pen or pencil? The other millions like other shows. Mark my word.… Read more »
I’m sorry to see that they cancelled Three Rivers. I love Alex was glad to see that they put him in another show. I still hate the fact that they cancelled Moonlight which was a great show and he was awsome as a Vampire. I hope they find a good show for him because he is a good actor and I enjoy watching him.
I love ‘Three Rivers’! Half the time Sunday night football ran long and my DVR didn’t record the entire show because of it. I ended up watching it on my computer instead. What I loved about the show was that it celebrated the lives of the people who were organ donors. Sure, there were episodes that made me cry because of the illnesses and death, but seriously, how often do we get to see a show like that one that one that is not only about the illness but about the donors as well. ‘Three Rivers’ is an amazing show… Read more »
You go Guguie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Three Rivers didn’t have a lot of action in it. It had nothing to do with football. Frankly speaking, it was slow and very dull. We have enough sickness around that no one really wants to look at some tv series on someone who needs a heart transplant, etc. As a matter of fact, I spoke to my sister, who lives in Tucson and I told her that the show was not going to make it. Alex O’Laughlin is an excellent actor, but putting him in a show like Three Rivers after Moonlight just didn’t fit the bill. He should… Read more »
I loved the show… I agree that football schedule messed up my DVR-so I had to tape it for a lot longer to make sure I would be able to really watch the whole thing!
But I agree even MORE with BRING MOONLIGHT back!!! all these other Vampire shows don’t measure up to MOONLIGHT!
three rivers was an aewsome show. the only bad thing was my bedtime, which is 10:00. With the footbal games going over their lime slot, i had to go to bed before it came on. I REALLY wish it would still be aired or at least finish the season before ending it.
my husband and i really enjoyed “three rivers” tv series and were very disappointed the series was cancelled or probably would be due to a low rating. please do not cancel the show as it was one of the very best and we did not miss an episode. finally there was a medical show that was not just about sex as so many of them are. many of our friends watched the show every week. so disappointed it was dropped. please bring it back. to us it was much better than their sister “cold case”.
Seriously? The show was bad. You have to admit it. It wasn’t good in the beginning and it never got better. And I love Alex. I watched it only for him but it wasn’t enough. It was a correct decision to cancel it.
I think that CBS failed to place this show in a good time slot. I watched it every sunday (even though I knew Dexter was on Showtime at the same time). I DVR’d Dexter so that I could watch “Three Rivers”. ??? Bring it back in a better time slot and you will have a much more varied and larger audience. Not enough importance is placed on TV about organ transplants. This show brought the important issue to light in a great format. And yes, I too, am sick of reality shows. !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I THINK THIS SHOW WAS GREAT, GREAT ACTING, AS LONG AS YOU SEE JUST THE MEDICAL PART OF THE SHOW, NOT PERSONAL PARTS, HOPE TO SEE IT BACK
Three rivers was one of the best shows on TV, please bring it back.
I’m not an organ donor, but after watching this show I am very seriously thinking of becoming one. I just plain can’t understand why you have taken this off. My same friends were really upset when Moonlight went off and just as upset with this one going off. In one of the comments they mentioned ATWT. You can’t tell me that Bold & Beautiful has more viewers than ATWT. Bold is the most poor excuse of a soap that I have seen. It is only half an hour and it keeps revolving around the same old thing. I am from… Read more »
