To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

I really liked Three Rivers it was a good series. I really loved the fact that it was filmed in Pittsburgh my home town. I hope it comes back on after football season. Why would they put a new series on Sunday night during football season. It appears that CBS really did not want the show to make it. I know it would make it after football season on a Sunday. That was a good show to be aired on a Sunday when there most of the time there is not to much to watch on Sunday at prime time.… Read more »
I WAS SORRY TO HERE HEAR THAT THREE RIVERS WAS TAKEN OFF THE AIR. I REALLY MISS IT . I HOPE THEY BRING IT BACK… I LIKE FOOTBALL, BUY I ALSO LIKE THREE RIVERS… IT IS A REAL GOOD AND INTERESTING SHOW TO WATCH!
I am sorry they took off three rivers, i rally enjoyed the show, too much football on, everyday of the week, lease you could watch something not related to sports. The football is just taking over the channels, enought is enought . Bring back show or at least Sunday night movies.
That show was great! It should be aired again. Or at least finish the season they started!
I really liked Three Rivers, the show had a good message
behind it.Its a shame that it went off the air.One of the websites
said,it didnt have enough,to keep the show.I dont understand why.
All the comments say I love this show.CBS made a BIG mistake by letting
Three Rivers go.Maybe they should het something go like Cold Case.
I am also disappointed they took the show off the air. aThis as a very interesting role for Alex and I think he was very good. May be they need to find a different night to air the show when nothing else can interfere with its time slot. Alex is a very talented and wish CBS and viewers would give him a chance.
I cannot believe that a show like Three Rivers has been taken off the air and an airhead of a show like Accidently On Purpose is allowed to stay!! Doesn’t make any sense. Maybe they should take some of these mindless sitcoms off and put Three Rivers in their place.
I agree 110% with those dumb shows allowed to be on, but yet a great, heart warming show like Three Rivers…and mind you they dont come around very offen…gets cancelled! Its appalling!
It seems like Deja-vu time and again. A good quality show with good writing , acting, story plots cant seem to last. I wish CBS would try “Patience” and give something a chance. My wife and I still mourn, “Joan of Arcadia”. I cant believe “Ghost Whisperer” or what ever you call it still is on !
I am really disappointed that they took of Three Rivers. Everytime we really find a show we really like they pull it. I don’t remember seeing them try another time slot. I think the main reason of the popularity is that it was on after the Sunday night football games and many time the games ran over and people didn’t stay up to watch it because it was too late.
I hate the fact the eveytime I start to like a new show like Three Riivers it gets cancelled. Sunday night football alway ran over which screwed up my DVRing of this show. I always looked forward to watching the show if not on Sunday, but the next night.
I liked the storylines and the actor’s. I think CBS should give this show another chance now that football is ending, if they have to move some of the other reality shows around. Please CBS, give this show another chance!!!!
I loved this show! Maybe Sunday was a bad day for it to air, but the show is great. I love all the actors, the different story line, and of course I am a fan of Alex.
I really hate it that CBS again took off another show that really liked. Not only did they take off Moonlight but now they have cancelled Three Rivers. There needs to be another show like ER or Three Rivers. I really like those types of shows. I do think that Sunday night football hurt the show. I think CBS needs to change the schedule of the football games or if they run over their time limit they shouldn’t even put it on,
I loved Three Rivers! I was bummed when ER ended but then this show came on and I absolutely loved it!
I just want to say as an English writing major and a high school English teacher….that Three Rivers is very well written, and an awesome show that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I looked forward to sunday night and this show. Carol Barbee, the writer and producer of this show is my cousin (Our mothers are first cousins). Although we don’t really know one another that well, I feel that Carol has really gone the extra mile with this show and it deserves much more credit than it is being given. I was also a fan of… Read more »
This was a good show but because it is on a bad night it didn’t get a chance. Onc reason was the show coming on later than scheduled because of football games (messed up the DVRing). Other reasons are church night and Sunday night football. I enjoyed the characters and was hoping for a second chance to watch them.
