To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

I enjoyed watching this show a lot and am sad there won’t be new ones this season. It was definitely a nice change from all the dramas involving crimes. Maybe Sunday night didn’t work or something, but I would have planned on watching it regardless of what night it is on. I like Grey’s Anatomy too but was beginning to enjoy this one more in some ways.
The so called marketing guru screwed this from the beginning by having it play on a Sunday night. Especially since I would DVD and not catch it because of late football games. Someone at CBS should get fired especially when trying to show off a new show on. A Sunday that uses live programming to feed in. Idiots!
I am sorry to find out that Three Rivers has been cancelled!!! My mom and I watched it from the beginning. It is a good show for us to watch. We both like that doctor portrayed by Alex O’Loughlin. Please reconsider and bring that show back!!!!
Three Rivers is a great show. It was such a nice change from the TV crime shows. CBS needs to bring it back. I too was inspired to become an organ donor.
Good show. Might inspire people to become organ donors. Put it in Jay Leno’s time slot.
Three Rivers was my favorite medical show…after ER went off the air I was disappointed in the medical shows out there… then I found Three Rivers. I am a retired nurse and an organ donor, I was hoping this show would inspire more organ donors. Maybe the day and time should be changed and replace it for one of those reality shows. I have talked about Three Rivers to friends and some have never heard of it, I think Sunday nights just does not work for many people!! Please bring it back…..and advertise about it more!!
Totally ridiculous. You get a very good show with good actors and then you pull it. Compared to so of the other shows that are on, this is top notch. A VERY BIG MISTAKE ON YOUR PART.
Wow…thanks, now I get to watch some football….ick, ptooey, no way.
I was actually very very fond of this show and looked forward to it being a regular part of my TV diet.
BRING IT BACK!!!!!
Just found out from my mom “Three Rivers” will be cancelled. Both of us really enjoyed watching it and are hoping it’s possible that someone will have a change of heart. It deserves a second chance!
I live right outside of Pittsburgh and it is just so cool to have a TV show located in my home town! Three Rivers inspired me to become an organ donor when I recently went to get my license picture retaken.
This was a great show, although sometimes sad, still very heart-warming and inspiring.
I watched football and Three Rivers. I thought Three Rivers was very inspirational show. I got involved with the characters and also want to know what happened to the guy who needed the heart transplant. CBS needs to bring it back and see if it will take off again. I know people who I work with who watch the show and we talk about it.
Three Rivers became my favorite show even though it only ran for a few short weeks. It was the show that I looked forward to watching every Sunday. I have been so disappointed with its cancellation and I am very disappointed in CBS. They have been canceling all of my favorite shows lately and now the only show that will be left that I watch on CBS is Ghost Whisperer.
Three Rivers has been an inspiration to me. At present I am a pre-lung transplant patient with the Cleveland Clinic and even though I know this is just a TV program it has answered a few questions for me. I really looked forward every Sunday evening to watch this program and have been very disapointed that it hasn’t been on. I figured it was because of the Holidays now I am really disapointed. This program was different than the other medical dramas on TV because it specifically dealt with the Transplant Unit. Please reconsider cancelling this series in its entirety,… Read more »
It was a fresh idea. There hasn’t been anything else like it . I really enjoy the show. The show was believeable, touching, and I felt better at the end of each episode. I hope that CBS will reconsider their decision. The show was not on at a good time and if scheduled at another time slot during the week it would do better. (Especially if it went against some of the insipid comedies that are on now)
Honestly, If they do not like the ratings its getting they should change it to a different day or at least let it run out the season. I love the show, I think they should Definitely bring it back.
