To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

i love the show i do think that Sunday night football got in the way of a good show and thats way alot of people did not watch it. But i hope they don’t cancel the show because i like watching it and i will be sad to see it go there are worst show that should be canceled
I just thought that this show was on a “rest”. This show was the best of the fall season. The episode with Mandy Pitankin playing an ALS patient is absolutly the best performance I’ve EVER seen on TV!! BRING IT BACK!
I agree.. that was the best performance I have ever seen. It shows what people are willing to give and do for people that they do not know. Humanity is real. Let the show come back. It is a real show with real emotions. Bring back Three Rivers.
This was a great show – One medical program that was REALLY about the medical profession and not filled with who is sleeping with whom. What a shame it is not coming back. Alex O
I fell across the show one evening while channel surfing. I think the problem was I never saw the show advertised at all. Advertising the show would entice the public to view it. sunday at 10:00 is also competing with sports and Desperate Houswives, so why not try to move to another evening? I loved the show and sad to see it go.
I am not a huge television viewer as it is but when there are particular series on that I like, i.e. Three Rivers, I watch them. I am ticked off that Three Rivers has been yanked. It was never given a chance because of football. EVERY Sunday Three Rivers would come on 30 minutes to 1 hour late because of football. I would have to watch most episodes of Three Rivers online because I did not stay up late enough to watch it on television. I just don’t feel Three Rivers was given a fair opportunity.
Another great show lost…what are you people thinking. There are people out there who hate most reality shows and like shows that have meaning.
I really loved this show. It’s the first time in a long time that I immediately was addicted to a new show. The long football games certainly did not help this show especially if you wanted to DVR it. Sometimes it was coming on 40 minutes late and people are not going to check out a new show that they’re not sure when it’s starting. Give this show another chance!
where do they get their ratings info? it was a great show and i am heartbroken it was pulled. and i’m sick of shows getting pulled and the networks just doing it slick willy and not letting anyone know about it. so frustrating. put 3 rivers back on!!!!
This is a shame to cancel a great show. It was one of the programs we looked forward to each week. CBS needs to rethink this one. There are too many “reality shows” and not enough quality like Three Rivers to watch. Please bring it back.
three rivers was a great show. i am so tired of the networks thinking they know what the people want and do not want. i really liked this alottttt. and also without a trace, was another great show, that they cancelled. when will you guys get a grip. give us back they great shows, that many of us like to watch.
This is a great show; it educates the public on donation of organs and those that benefit from vital body organs. The waiting lists are many, and long for those needing transplants – many die in the waiting process because not enough people donate their organs after death. This show helps the fears that donors may have, and encourages more to prepare and make plans to have their body organs available to others after their death. GREAT SHOW, GIVE IT ANOTHER TRY IN PERHAPS ANOTHER TIME SLOT, OR AT LEAST DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS.
loved the show, maybe if you would take some of the shows off that are not worth watching, and put it into that slot.
if you gave pittsburgh the choice to watch football or anything else it would be football.
I really liked this show. I am from the Pittsburgh area so I enjoyed it even more. I think it just needed a better time slot to try it out. Once they get people hooked they will follow it to wherever they move it.
poor alex first moonlight gets cancelled and now three rivers. I think he is a gorgeous actor that actually can act.
I think that there are too many reality shows and it is getting really sickening to have all the great shows cancelled.
Everytime they put somthing on worth watching they take it off I’m upset I really like this show. They need to rethink this cancellation There are alot of people out there who like to watch this program.
