To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

How could football have done anything to the series? Cold Case has been on the air for several seasons, and it’s obviously done very well on a Sunday night during the football season. Maybe the lead doesn’t appeal to as many people as the network thinks he does. The fact that they’re thinking of bringing back Hawaii Five-O as another series for Alex O
GOD-What was CBS thinking? Three Rivers was a really really good show. I, like the others looked forward to Sunday nights. PLEASE CBS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BRING BACK THREE RIVERS!!!! After all a person can only watch so much Football. It’s Three Rivers 4 Me !!
You are right … I know of at least 3 times that the football games went over so if you were to tune in, you’d think they weren’t showing it. I even told my Mom about the show and was getting her to watch and she had trouble finding it, not realizing the show came on 40 min. late due to football game. Again, it just frustrating that they keep crappy shows on and renew them when they haven’t given this good, inspiring show a chance. I really wish they’d bring it back. It was truly something I looked forward… Read more »
Three Rivers was a great show and it deserves more time on the air! I definitely blame the football games on the lack of viewership. The games always run over their time slot, which pushes everything back. You can’t even set your dvr to tape the show unless you tape the entire night. So many times I only got to watch half of the show because it started late. Please give it another chance.
I find it hard to believe that Mercy is still on instead of Three Rivers. I used to be a fan of Grey’s Anatomy, and occasionally still watch it… however, the everyone sleeping with everyone just gets too much and that is exact reason I loved Three Rivers… it wasn’t about sleeping with everyone it had real inspiring stories, inspiring doctors … heck if I was seriously ill, I’d want these doctors working on me. Again, I think it’s because it was clean, inspiring and just didn’t have time to catch on was the only reason it didn’t get picked… Read more »
CBS does NOT care. Unbelievable & am shocked to see it go…It was a good show.. I mean really, wasn’t there another time slot you could have tried ? Or maybe another show that could go ?
I really liked Three Rivers and am sorry to see it go. There is nothing else to watch on Sunday after ABC’s Extreme Makeover, Home Edition until Cold Case. If it doesn’t survive, then Sunday bedtime will come early for me!
This was a good show and made me look forward to Sunday nights. It is better than Mercy and I see it still on the air. What is it…not enough sex and violence? Hey this is a very good show and shows lives revolving about transplants. Please return it to the air!
This show was great and I do agree that the football schedule interfered with the success of the show. Good actors, good stories and original.
I just don’t get it, All the new fall shows they advertise get people so excited to watch in the coming fall, then wam bam, cancelled Three Rivers right in the middle of showing it, didn’t give it a CHANCE, ONLY 3 MONTHS OF IT, BUT GIVE RERUNS, PLAYING RERUNS OVER AND OVER AGAIN, WHAT KIND OF MESSED UP CRAP IS THAT? To top it off they avertise ‘CBS CARES” HELL THEN, care about what people what to watch, give Three Rivers a chance and it will fly off. You have to crawl before you walk. Some one needs to… Read more »
Who ever reads my posts here, ever seen the advertisements of the donor registry, give life, organ transplant commercials?. they touch my heart every time. The older man who lost his eye sight for 30 years in a chemical plant explosion. He had a cornea eye transplant and seen his family before him for the first time in 30 years after the transplant. The 15 year old boy, who had bone marrow cancer had a bone marrow transplant and show his scar off and told the ladies it was a shark bite. The mother who had a heart transplant and… Read more »
I always looked forward to my Sunday nights with Three Rivers. It has a great cast and great storyline. I do believe that the NFL did have a lot to do with it though. I would record the when I was at work And I would get more amazing race than the program I wanted to see. You should give it another shot and possibly put it on after the Football season is over.
I really liked this show. It was different, funny and the story lines were great. I don’t understand why is it that every time a network has a good show in their hands, they let it go after only a few episodes or one season. Sometimes it takes people a little while to discover a show. Have some patience, will you? You’re overflowing us with stupid reality tv shows and little by little will leave us with nothing to watch!!!! STOP with those idiotic shows that pretend to be “real” but they’re clearly staged. Leave good shows like Three Rivers… Read more »
I personally cannot stand *Reality* shows….would NEVER watch one..never will. I just don’t *Get It*. What I could stand is Alex O’Laughlin…EASY on the eyes and is always in fine form regarding his acting abilities. First CBS (the ********) cancelled *Moonlight*, and now *Three Rivers*. Thank God they had the 16 episodes of Moonlight on DVD. I snatched that right up when it came out. Moonlight was one of THE best series on TV, and I’m not the only one who feels this way. The characters were awesome, the set….fabulous…and the special effects were also incredible. LOVE, LOVE…..LOVED it! Why… Read more »
I truly loved Three Rivers Show it was inspirational, opened up eyes that have not really seen what happens when you become an organ donor and what lives you can truly help. Yes I agree with some of the above comments, as to that it did get annoying with the interference with the sports and so forth. This show should not be canceled.
