To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

Please bring Three Rivers back! It was a good show and needs another chance in a
different time slot.
I really loved the show Three Rivers. It was real and about what is real in life. Maybe another network could pick it up!! TV is getting boring with all these reality shows. Enough of the reality crap and bring back what is real….
Three Rivers did not have a chance to show what it could do. It was a very good show with an original premise. The actors worked well together and I like many people miss this story line. Bring it back, please.
Three Rivers was not original, just another doctor show. Not a bad show, but it definitely wasn’t original.
I loved Three Rivers The actors were wonderful Esp. Alex O’Loughlin. I loved him on Moonlighting too. I sure hope this show comes back permanently
I loved that show, it would be ashame to have canceled it, maybe try wed. night or fri. so that the show doesnt get cut short, i was disappointed to hear that it wouldnt be returning…
All the above comments, I totally agree with. I am in love with this show. All you net work executives need to start getting rid of these stupid reality shows first. There are way too many. Shows like this really need a chance to survive. I don’t care when it is on, I will watch it. But realistically I agree whatever show is on after football it doesn’t seem to get far. Try later in the week, Wednesdays are empty as far as I am concerned, and no football or Nascar or any other sport. Really wanna see this show… Read more »
Both my husband and I absolutely LOVED the show and for him to say that it HAS to be good. It was “different” in a very good way. Sure would be nice if you would bring it back.
Please bring back Three Rivers. I enjoyed the shoe & Alex O’Loughlin. Also liked him in Moonlighting. If you must cancel the show, air the rest of the shows. Then find Alex a new one. I watch CBS 90% of the time, comedy, drama, adventure & scifi.
I too loved the show and have been wondering what happened to it. I hope it comes back and not just with the 5 new episodes. It is a very good show and needs to be renewed.
My sister and I both loved Three Rivers. I told her that because we both liked it, the show would probably get cancelled.
I agree with every previous comment. This show seems real, because it is real! I’ve lived it and I know. What a shame.
I loved Three Rivers. I hope that it survives. It really took a real-life look at organ transplant and especially the need for it. I received a kidney recently and it really changes lives. There is a huge deficit in donors and I was very excited to see this show take an interest in exposing what people go through waiting for an organ. This show needs to stay on, not just because it is a good, interesting drama, but because so many people are affected by it and it will save lives!
Three Rivers was a wonderful show. I wondered why it did not come back on. It was original and the actors gelled.
Unfortunately Three Rivers met the same fate as The Unit on Sunday nights. The shows aren’t the problem, the football and scheduling seem to leave the viewers “hanging” to find out what happens next. To be fair to these 2 shows and any other shows on Sunday night after sports (football or any other sport), air the shows in there entirety, after the football /sports show, and if needed, move the late night shows around or cut them short.
