To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

I agree Three Rivers should not have been canceled but moved to a different night. The show had real value in showing not only what a family making that decision goes thru but also the great benefits that come out of organ donation. I was truly touched by the episode that aired out of one family’s tragedy, 11 people were saved. If CBS does not bring it back then I would hope to see it on one of the cable channels like lifetime. And the networks wonder why Cable is beating their socks off.
Three Rivers is Great show. Please do not cancel it.
What’s wrong with CBS? Every time a new darn good show they come out with, they end up canceling! First it was Moonlight. Now Three Rivers? Damn it! The show was really good! The cast and the story line and the events that took place on the episodes. Damn it CBS, why make ppl happy with good shows to just take them away later on? >:(
Three Rivers is a great show. Come on CBS, get it together!
Being an organ donor is a great story line.
I agree with Wednesdays also!
Move it to another day instead of just times. Same with Cold Case. You’re taking good shows off of the air without giving them a chance somewhere else or even another network. Give it another chance.
C’mon CBS, Give this series another chance. The one resounding comment I have read over and over is that Three Rivers was the best new show on television and that it is a wholesome family favorite. Plenty of drama and good medical and hospital storylines. It deserves another chance, even if it is to run the shows you have over again in a productive time slot. The series was placed in an awkward time slot behind Sunday football which would never allow the program to begin a designated time. I think that re-running the episodes you have would attract strong… Read more »
I love the show because it was unique in storylines and promoted organ donation. Please bring it back.
I never did get to watch an episode because if football was on, I could not figure out what time three rivers was on. I really wanted to watch this because I kept hearing it was a great series.
We loved the show and wondered what happened to it. I hope the network tries again.
Its a fine show, especially for Sunday nights with football over. We look forward to watching the final five episodes if the quality remains high. Too bad not enough of the right folks were asked about it. Nielsen does it again…
I thought the show was very good – the issues were very real and well written – I can’t believe it didn’t fare better.
I loves the show, and hope it comes back. It wasn’t given a fair shot.
I was VERY upset that Three Rivers was pulled. I agree they should try Wed. nights 8 or 9 slot. Probably 8 would be best. I absolutely loved this show and the actors and characters on the show. I felt it was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Please bring it back!! Carol
I thought it was the best new show on TV. A show with some real substance. Dealing with real issues. I hope that the show come back. The football games messed up the TV schedule and people did not know what time or if it would even be coming on. Now that Football is over PLEASE bring Three Rivers back!!!
I think the show should be moved to a different day not just a different time. Why doesnt CBS try Wednesday nights at 8 or 9. There is nothing on on that night till 10 so it would be a great night to try out. I think the show was different and should get the chance to be seen by more people. The weekends are a hard sell for new shows and running against football and other things just wasnt the right place to try. Please rethink letting this show go.
