To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

I am sad to hear that it has been cancelled! i watched that show every sunday, and when it wasnt on one sunday i was pissed! I love alex, loved him in August Rush, loved him in Moonlight, cant wait to see the new movie with Jennifer lopez! I really enjoyed this show with him in it! Yes it was another medical show but this one dealt with organ donors, something that needs to be put out there cuz not that many people are organ donors! I know i am! I hope to see alex is something very soon on… Read more »
I thought the show was awesome. It was much more uplifting than all of the crime shows that only make you wonder if there is good in the world. Why not try a different time slot… on another night. Hope they think a little harder and give it another shot!!
I loved this show. I hope they bring it back.
I really liked that show and Iam sad that it is gone. maybe the smart thing to do would be bring it back now. Football season is over it should do better
Three Rivers was an excellent program to watch. I really enjoyed the drama and I miss the show. Please give the series another chance. CBS Has Made A Big Mistake.
I agree CBS really blew it when cancelling Three Rivers, I guess they need to take a look at history I remember a little known show that got off to a slow start called Mash and look what it did.
I loved the show. My son had a transplant at 8 months of age. I thought the show was fantastic, inspirational, educational. I hope that CBS reinstates it.
Yes, I think CBS screwed up by cancelling Moonlight and Three Rivers. I love watching Alek O’Laughlin. He is not only handsome he was incredible in both tv shows. I hope to see him back on the air soon.
I like three rives and miss it. I do hope they will bring it back the stories line was so informaty. Why do a summer line when football is not on.
Thank you
I truly enjoyed this show, I could even get my husband to watch and enjoy it with me and he doesnt usually sit down and watch doctor or hospital shows. I really think u should give the show another try maybe y football is not on
I think Three Rivers was a great show to see, about time we have something besides all the crime stories. It also touches on real life issues. Football is a possible reason for less viewing. I thik it deserves another chance.
Three Rivers is history; CBS won’t be bringing it back. Alex will be in the new Hawaii Five-O show that CBS is planning for the next tv season; while I would love to see Alex in a show that will succeed, I am not sure this is the one. He was perfect in Moonlight; CBS screwed up big time when they canceled that show.
I totally agree! I bet CBS wanted to kick themselves in the ass when Twilight burst onto the scene! Women and girls worldwide are vampire crazy and I, personally, thought Alex O’Laughlin was a super HOT vampire!
I know TV is a business but give a show a chance. I personally don’t like football and enjoyed Three Rivers immensely ( and especially Alex) but why not try another day?
The pilot was rough, but I thought the show got better. I hope they give the show another chace. Rj
It’s not just another medical show. It was informative, educational and exciting. I guess it wasn’t as exciting as football.
