Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

It was propably the best medical show I ever seen… Really, really, really a shame that Americans do not appreciate such a good piece of action cinema … Trauma R.I.P.
Disapointed that’s for sure. I can’t believe it was canceled. This is an excellent show.
A show that husband and wife actually can watch and look forward t0o.We always set the DVR so we did not miss a thing. Ok, so the show was on at the same time as Monday Night Football what did they expect.
A disappointed viewer
Um I was wondering why I saw all these shows premiering and coming back on for another season and not Trauma. Then I saw this was was just crushed. It was so different from all the other ER shows. Because that’s what most medical shows are is ER. I truly will miss this show. It has inspired me so much. Please someone pick it back up!
I’m very upset that there will be no Trauma season 2 or future season. I bought the first season and was hooked. It’s a great show based on what could be reality situations. Its a real life position that people can relate to and keeps you on edge. Please bring it back.
I do not understand why this show was cancelled! I never heard of it until I found it on hulu.. The show is a complete masterpiece as far as medical sitcoms are concerned! I think the network did not advertise it enough or something.. It’s one of the best shows I’ve seen and I’m hooked!
This show was one of the best since NCIS and Gray’s anatomy. Porque JESUS porque! how could they cancel this show. It’s obvious that they don’t know when they have a good thing. They picked 2 shows that STINK!
you got to be kiding im an emt and its hard enought to find a good that doent put un ems to shame jezz this suck I WANT MORE TRAUMA!!
I was and am really disappointed the decision to cancel I really enjoyed the show! What a shame!
i love trauma im only 16 and my goal in life is to become a emt or paramedic and this show inspires me even more to help people that are in need
it also could be a family show
i mean my whole family watches it and they love it too
i really do wish another network picks it up
I am extremely disappointed that Trauma was cancelled it was an excellent series and I would have loved to see more! I think another network should pick up the series. Obviously a lot of people are extremely disappointed in the decision to cancel the series.
I LOVE “TRAUMA”! Why did they have to cancell it?! I hope some other network pick it up. I want to see more of “San Franciscos finest”.
so annoyed! I loved that show! They seriously need to pick it up somewhere!
WHAT THE HECK????those were both great shows…dangit
Whom actually decides whether or not to cancel a show? Who were the pin heads that made this decision? They are flat out wrong. Trauma was one of the better shows on tv.
Any bets another channel will pick it up….then NBC in their genius will decide to bring it back.
im sad i really enjoyed it!
