NBC has had mixed results with its freshman comedies during the 2016-17 television season. Although Powerless is struggling and may well be cancelled, The Good Place did well enough to be renewed for a second season. Will the Trial & Error TV show prove a success for The Peacock Network? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
A scripted comedy series airing on NBC, the first season of Trial & Error stars Nicholas D’Agosto, John Lithgow, Krysta Rodriguez, Steven Boyer, Jayma Mays, and Sherri Shephed. The story centers on new lawyer Josh Segal (D’Agosto). To tackle his first case, this New Yorker sets out for the tiny Southern town of East Peck. There, he must defend an eccentric, “rollercizing” poetry professor, Larry Henderson (John Lithgow), who has been accused of murdering his wife. Rounding out the rest of the defense team are a group of quirky locals: Larry’s daughter Summer Henderson (Rodriguez), former cop and lead investigator Dwayne Reed (Boyer), along with Carol Anne Keane (Mays) and Anne Flatch (Shepherd).
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
4/19 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Trial & Error TV series on NBC? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
5/21 update: Trial & Error is renewed for season two on NBC. Details here.
A smart and sweet show. I hope they give this show another chance. Hopefully reruns will be available for the fan base to build.
I loved every episode. This show works. Want to see another season. It’s very creative.
I LOVE this show. The entire cast was great, but I’ve never seen John Lithgow in a bad show. Dearly love this man!! Hope it comes back on.
This show is laugh out loud funny. We love it. The actors do a fantastic job. Please renew it!
I like this show and i dont even watch sitcoms too much. And the cast is amazing! I hope it gets renewed.
I love the show. Can’t imagine being in the defense attorneys shoes with the crazy cast that he has to help him and defending John Lithgow. Love Mr. Lithgow and so glad to see him again doing comedy.
Love this show…talk about weirdly funny! Great job.
If you want to see a second season of Trial & Error, I’d recommend suggesting it to Netflix using their title request. Netflix already has a bunch of NBC shows, so it may be an easy grab for them if people show interest. Also, this sort of show is exactly the kind that gets steam on Netflix, and that may raise T&E’s value in the eyes of NBC.
I love Trial& Error. It gets better every episode. I find myself laughing out loud more every week. I’ve loved John Lithgow since 3rd Rock From the Sun and the rest of the cast is VERY funny. Please continue this show!
Trial & Error is hysterical! We are constantly laughing out loud every episode! Everyone I know who’s seen it absolutely loves it. It fills the quirky comedy void left by Parks & Rec and The Office. I think the short spring season and back to back airings have made it difficult for Trial & Error to gather steam. Sadly, that’s the fault of the network; not the show. NBC needs to give it a 2nd season so more people get the opportunity to discover this awesome show!
Hilarious! My husband and I watch it all the time and we laugh out loud during the show. Great acting and timing of humorous one liners. We would like to see the show continue.
Cancel. Totally calculated and void of real fun. Even John Lithgow falls flat. Plus: The person, who plays Anne. Really not a good actress.
I think this show is hysterical! My husband and I watch it every Tuesday night.
Such dry humor. All the characters are well-played by the actors on the show. I so hope it is renewed!
It’s already bleeding audience after only 4 shows. Down 28%.
I’ve been enjoying this so far. It’s not quite as good as say Parks & Rec, or The Office, but that may change over time, if given the chance.
