After four years on the air, ABC has decided to pull the plug on Ugly Betty. There won’t be a fifth season but will longtime fans get a true series finale?
Ugly Betty debuted in 2006 and follows young Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) as she navigates her way through the world of high-fashion, working at the trendy magazine Mode. Others in the cast include Eric Mabius, Tony Plana, Ana Ortiz, Becki Newton, Mark Indelicato, Michael Urie, Vanessa Williams, and Ashley Jensen.
After being a modest hit for its first two seasons, the series’ viewership dropped to an average of eight million viewers and a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 demo last year. That would usually put a series “on the bubble” but ABC gave it an early renewal. It was pretty clear that the network wanted to try to keep it going to accumulate more episodes for the syndication package.

The network assigned the series to a Friday night timeslot this season, hoping that the loyal fans would follow it there. Not many did. After cancelling Eastwick, they moved Ugly Betty to a better slot, on Wednesday nights. The ratings haven’t been very good there either.
The show’s fate seemed essentially sealed by Ugly Betty’s syndication deal. While episodes of The Mentalist and NCIS: Los Angeles sold for about $2.2 million each in syndication, Ugly Betty episodes have been licensed to the TV Guide Network for “a low six figures.”
Today, the network and production team made a joint statement, saying, “We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”

i just got through watching ugly betty season 4 on net flex and i have to say i was hopeing for a season five. I really want to know how all there life’s end up but i see no season 5. I really hate it when i get all into these series and then they just get cut the least they could do is give a good ending to them instead of just cancelling it like that im bout to just stop watching serious all togather cause they alot of them just leave me hanging woundering what happens next.
I just watched the last season and the final episode made me cry!! I really want to know what happens with Daniel and Betty and with Claire and Tyler! and what happens to Mode now that Daniel left! I thought it was soo cute that Daniel left Mode for Betty and went to London with her!! They should really make a another season or movie or something!!!
oh mehn. Ugly Betty got cancelled. When I watched the end of it i was hoping to find out that there was another season, but there wasn’t any. I really and truly wanted to find out about amanda and her father, daniel and betty, whilemina, and betty’s family. Also about Tyler and mrs. meade.
I just finish watching season 4 on netflix. I was hoping to watch season 5, but now i see that the show got cancelled. That really sad cause I LOVE THE SHOW!!!

I would like to see a season 5 air because you leave the fans contemplating on what will happen next! Not just Betty and Daniel but with Amanda and her father, mark and Troy, Hilda,Ignacio,etc. there are just too many people whose stories need to be told without any cliff hangers. Plus you left us on edge. If your going to cancel it then go about it the right way. I just finished season 1 through four and I know I am like 3 years late but I was dying for them to kiss. PLEASE PLEASE end this amazing show with a movie.

I wish there would be a season 5 where there will be a proper ending. Hopefully see Daniel and Betty in love… I find it difficult to believe how the viewership dropped for this amazing TV show. It’s inspiring!!! helps us to follow our passion in life and never to give up and teaches us that some risks are worth taking…. Please, please make season 5… for the sake of the many fans who still love this show..
so need to get a movie together were betty and daniel get together for real. i have watched and rewatched this show so many times and i need more. And so do alot of others….MOVIE PLEASE!!!!
I feel your pain 🙁 I have rewatched the series time and time again. I really think Ugly Betty deserves a proper ending such as a movie.
I would love to see her and Daniel get together, and see a spectacular finish by them getting married and her reaching her dream of a lifetime! and i second the fact that a final movie should be made!
