CBS is changing their plans for Golden Boy and Vegas, the network’s two Tuesdays at 10pm series. Golden Boy was supposed to air twice on Tuesday nights before shifting to Fridays for the remainder of its season. Vegas would then return on March 19th.
Now, the network has decided to keep Golden Boy on Tuesdays and is shipping Vegas to Friday nights instead, starting April 5th (once basketball coverage has finished). An episode of Golden Boy will still air tomorrow night, as originally scheduled.
Neither show has been a success for the network but Golden Boy lost very little steam in week two so they may see it as a better bet than Vegas.
Though it’s seemed unlikely that Vegas would be renewed for a second season, a change in scheduling could end up helping the series survive. If Vegas can maintain about the same ratings on Friday nights, it could end up being a viable replacement for venerable CSI: NY. It’s also a good match with Blue Bloods.
The last few episodes of Vegas drew a 1.5 demo rating while CSI: NY’s attracted just a 1.2 in the demo.
Here’s the press release from CBS:
CBS’s NEW DRAMA “Golden Boy” TO REMAIN IN TUESDAY, 10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT TIME PERIOD
An Original “Golden Boy” Will Air This Friday as Previously Scheduled
“Vegas” Moves to Friday, 9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT, Effective April 5
Golden Boy, CBS’s new drama about the meteoric rise of an ambitious cop who becomes the youngest police commissioner in the history of New York City, will remain on Tuesdays (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT), after two special previews in the time period.
CBS previously announced that Golden Boy would move to Friday (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) after the preview broadcasts on Feb. 26 and March 3. An original episode of Golden Boy will still air this first Friday (March 8) at 9:00 PM, ET/PT as planned.
CBS will give the freshman drama Vegas a look in a new time period, moving it to Friday (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) beginning April 5, following the Network’s coverage of the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament.
In its two Tuesday broadcasts, GOLDEN BOY is winning its time period in viewers and key demographics, averaging 9.98 million viewers, 2.6/07 in adults 25-54 and 1.7/05 in adults 18-49.
GOLDEN BOY stars Theo James, Chi McBride, Kevin Alejandro, Bonnie Somerville, Holt McCallany and Stella Maeve. Greg Berlanti and Emmy Award winner Nicholas Wootton are executive producers for Warner Bros. Television.
Vegas stars Dennis Quaid, Michael Chiklis, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jason O’Mara, Taylor Handley and Sarah Jones. Greg Walker, Nicholas Pileggi, Cathy Konrad, Arthur Sarkissian and James Mangold are executive producers for CBS Television Studios.
What do you think? Is this good or bad news for Vegas? How about for Golden Boy?
Hey, take that silly golden boy off and put Vegas back on, its a lot better show. Its believable, real or not. The cast is really good. Just give us our show back. Keith
i agree vegas is agreat show. i watched golden boy twice on ch 13 and i will not watch it any more. put vegas back on it was great bill
Please rally behind “Vegas”. it is a high quality show with tremendous character actors. What a shame it would be to lose this show. Fridays could work, although now it will compete with Blue Blooda, my other favorite current tv show. Thank God for DVR.
Wife and I Love Vegas
WHY would you put Vegas on opposite Blue Bloods….the only two good shows on TV right now!?????
Las Vegas is an excellent show. So is Blue Bloods. I cannot get interested in Golden Boy. Just another Police show.
PLEASE, PLEASE…bring back Vegas!!!! I love that show and really miss it.
We don’t need another “cop” show, and really sick of all these CSI shows.
Bring back the 60’s era…the cars, the “old” Las Vegas, the old west style of Sheriff Lamb.
p.s. I also miss Life On Mars…remember that one?
Golden Boy is dull!!!!!! bring Vegas back
Vegas is a great show. Please leave it on. I won’t watch any show that replaces it. Sarah Jones looks fantastic in 60’s outfits and I hope her talent isn’t wasted again. They have a great cast.
CBS, don’t screw up and take off the good shows just to keep up with the Jone’s(reality shows, they suck) love Vegas, Blue Bloods, all the NCIS shows, Golden Boy is ok but i find myself getting on the computer in stead of watching the show, but sure don’t leave my sofa when Vegas is on, get the message!!!!!!!!!!
I really enjoy Vegas!!!! The first night Golden Boy was on was on the internet finding out what happened to Vegas. And was so happy to see it was going to be back in 2 weeks. And now this talk of cancelling it…..NO DON’T DO IT PLEASE.
Networks are really trying hard to reach the “younger generations”. Baby boomers may be getting older but we’re not dead. And guess what–we watch a lot of TV and we buy a lot of products. Advertisers take heed: I am getting tired of all the trash that is on every night. Give us Vegas and more shows like it or lose a large percentage of your audiences!
Vegas is a great show ,leave it alone
Vegas is best new show in a while. I think it had caught on and folks were looking for it on Tues. night instead of that weak Goldon Boy. We were really disappointed!!
Hey CBS, It’s about time for you to wake up and listen to your loyal viewers, the people who watch your programs every week like clock work and are waiting all week to watch their favorite show to see the next episode, but all to find out that it’s gone. You just yank them off the air without any reason. Like the show Vegas, which was an excellent show, with a great storyline and a superb casting crew! My wife and I plus all of our friends & family watched it from it’s very first airing until you yanked it… Read more »
Ggolden Boy, does not cut it, just another cop story.
Pls leave Vegas on. Not many programs to watch and enjoy
