Hieroglyph: FOX Orders Ancient Egypt TV Series

Hieroglyphs TV showFOX has ordered 13 episodes of a new fantasy action-adventure series called Hieroglyph from Travis Beacham (Pacific Rim, Clash of the Titans).

The show will be set in ancient Egypt and will follow a thief who’s pulled out of prison to serve the Pharoah. He soon finds himself navigating through palace intrigue, seductive concubines, and coming face-to-face with sorcery.

Beacham wrote the pilot script for Hieroglyph a couple years back and it was almost ordered to pilot during the 2011-2012 development season. Now, the network is skipping the pilot and moving right into a season order. Production is scheduled to begin early next year.

20th Century Fox TV and Chernin Entertainment will produce the series, with Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope and Beacham serving as executive producers.

What do you think? Does this sound like the kind of show you might want to check out? Do you think it has a chance of being a success on a regular network?

@Mason-ETHIOPIANS were black. Egyptians were brown, caramel colored, if you wish to be technical. Also, after the founding of Line of Ptolemy, the ruling family was Macedonian, mixed with Egyptian. Also, Egypt was a melting pot of cultures and religions, for all generalized religion worshiped first the Animal/Human gods, and then moved on to Isis. A history lesson is due I think…

This is just ridiculousness, Egyptians were black not EUROPEAN, or mixed race, they were just black people. I guess in a 100 years Martin Luther King and Michael Jordan will be white.

  5. Why Watch says

Does not sound promising. Just another soap with actors dressed as ancient Egyptians. That doesn’t cut it anymore.

I’d rather watch a program about the USA from the beginning than Egypt. Just because our country isn’t what it used to be doesn’t make it less interesting.
