Magic City: Starz CEO Explains Cancellation

Magic City cancelationWhile fans of Magic City are understandably upset by the show’s cancellation, Starz CEO Chris Albrecht recently explained that the decision wasn’t a difficult one when it came to finances.

At the TCA press tour, he said, “It was a fine show but it was extremely expensive. It had decent audience but distributors weren’t interested in co-marketing it with us, and we felt season two had a pretty reasonable and satisfying landing spot.”

Magic City revolves around the world of Miami’s Miramar Playa Hotel in 1959. The TV series stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olga Kurylenko, and Danny Huston, with Steven Strait, Christian Cooke, Jessica Marais, Yul Vazquez, Dominik Garcia-Lorido, Kelly Lynch, and Elena Satine.

What do you think? Did you like Magic City? Would you liked to have seen a third season?

What!! I can’t believe Magic City got cancelled. I just came looking to see when season three was going to be started and this is what I hear ….it’s being cancelled. Whhhat a shame. At least they could have a finale episode so the fans can have closure. I hope they bring Magic City back even on a different network. Surely money can be found some where.

I didn’t like Magic City……. I LOVED Magic City. I am so disappointed to hear it is cancelled. Some smart and rich producer (hopefully rich so another show won’t be cancelled because of finances) will snatch Jeffrey Dean Morgan up for something! He is so charismatic and sexy. It was one of the most riveting shows I have ever watched. The whole cast and all the stories were so good! Please bring it back!!

This was our Friday date night show! We waited all week and couldn’t wait to get the kids to bed so we could watch Magic City. So disappointed in Starz. This was a fantastic series

What? Really? I pay $275 per month for Cable TV with 500 channels and watch almost nothing….A few news channels and a few select “On Demand” Premium Channel Series Shows if I’m lucky. I got hooked on Magic City Episode 1, Season 1, and have been waiting since last summer for Season 3. Cancelled? Really? My wife is right….I’m wasting my time watching TV. What a disappointment…all the useless garbage on TV, finally something I actually really like and it always comes down to the almighty dollar… condolences to the writers, producers, cast members….

I am terribly disappointed, crushed that my absolute favorite TV series has been canceled. The first year was best. I could tell something was going on in the second season when they got rid of the beautiful Jackie Gleason-esque string arrangement theme and went to a imitation pseudo James Bond guitar thing. Then they started messing around with the authenticity of the cars… like having the bad guy suddenly drop backwards from a 1958 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty-Special to a (they won’t notice the switch) 1957 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty-Special. Nobody that rich and that badass in those days would have reverted to driving a two-year-old car from a new one.

I was looking forward to season three and hoping it would continue in the spirit of season one. Yes, undoubtedly it was expensive to produce. But look at the garbage that is being made for far more money these days! I have not been to a movie theater in years. Most of what is offered up now is pure mindless garbage or endless explosions and CGI.

It is too bad that the entertainment world cannot provide genuine entertainment. It is sad that Magic City was unable to make it in the barren wasteland of today’s Hollywood and television. But it is what it is.

We would like to see a grand finale. Left the fans in suspense. Please create a grand finale show. We need closure.

I enjoyed the series and remained hopeful it would run more episodes. Drugs and prostitution have reigned in many series, but there was much more in Magic City. Watching the Butcher and the old relapsing relationship remaining with the wealthy sister in law. I wanted to see Ike win

Magic City was a wonderfully written show and the cast was phenomenal. Why a show like this is cancelled when there are so many other junk shows doesn’t make any sense.

Big disappointment that Magic City was canceled because of lack of financing. WTF! There is financing and all it would take is the person responsible to get off his/her ass and ask sponsors or hire more sponsors. Damn good show! Bring it back! Please bring back “Magic City”! Please!

Magic City Wes one of the best TV series that I have ever seen I looked forward to this Friday night series, it was spectacular. Please take this to HBO, or Showtime, where you would get a great audience. The show Ray Donovan is good, but Magic City, was probably about 1, 000 times better,
