There’s been no shortage of TV shows about doctors who have lots of problems. Some are ratings hits while others are cancelled after only one season. How’s Rush on USA Network been doing? Will it get a second season?
Rush revolves around a talented and handsome physician (Tom Ellis) who had it all — but then lost it in one fateful night. Six years later, he’s a private doctor who treats less-than-squeaky-clean clientele in Los Angeles. The rest of the cast includes Harry Hamlin, Larenz Tate, Odette Annable, and Sarah Habel.
Launching in mid-July, the first episode of Rush attracted 1.7 million viewers with a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. It wasn’t an impressive start for a scripted show on USA.
For the episodes that followed, the numbers have bounced all around — up and down like a ping-pong ball. Last week’s installment hit series highs while the previous week hit new series lows. It’s difficult to explain but, when the ratings get this low, it doesn’t take many Nielsen viewers to watch or not watch a show to cause a dramatic shift in the ratings. Still, it is unusual.
Like Satisfaction, Rush has very poor ratings — even when compared to the rest of USA’s ailing scripted series. It seems very likely that USA will cancel Rush but, given the cable channel’s current situation, it could easily go either way.
But, what do you think? Do you like the RushTV show on USA? If you ran the network, would you cancel or renew it for a second season?
10/2 update: USA has cancelled Rush after one season of 10 episodes.
I agree….please keep this show.
CANCEL both Satisfaction and Rush! My family and friends saw nothing in the first two episodes of either to encourage watching any more that that.
I think Rush is one the most terrific shows on television today. The main character is an interesting and complex character who, despite his severe personal flaws, tries to do what he feels is right for other people despite battling his own personal demons. There is so much drivel on television today (for example “Two Broke Girls” that I absolutely cannot believe keeps getting renewed), surely USA should reconsider cancelling this program. I also believe that the Satisfaction should be renewed by USA for basically the same reasons. It is interesting, complex and, while some viewers might find it offensive,… Read more »
Keep the show it’ s great!
Love this show. Please do not cancel. This is the #1 show I have on “series record”. My husband and I watch it every week and have never let it roll to the next week before we’ve watched the DVR episode. Love the premise, love the characters, love the plot lines. I’ve got my whole family watching it in Ohio, Florida and Maine while we watch it in Texas. Renew it for another season and I think you’ll see the ratings go up as word of mouth spreads. It’s unfortunate that it is a lead-in for Satisfaction which I’ve heard… Read more »
KEEP THE SHOW
Keep the series we LOVE IT!!!!!!
KEEP THE SHOW!!!
I totally agree with DJ. Wonderful example to have Rush end the show doing coke. What a total joke
Great show. A keeper!!
PLEASE KEEP THE SHOW!!! The ratings probably bounce around due to his character flaws to which people love to hate him or hate to love him!! This is a kind of show, like Satisfaction, that tests people’s ability to grasp a show from different emotions!! Keep them both!! 1 season is not enough to make a valid determination on the success of the show as a whole! Give people & fans time to learn the main characters & the crazy storyline!
Rush has a great cast, a plausible premise (a bright guy who has lost his way and is trying to pull his life together), and an interesting setting. The individual episodes are riveting, and we come to care about Rush and his friends. The problem is that there is too much adversity. I watched the entire season, and in the course of of the season Rush had (1) gone back on drugs, (2) thrown the woman who loved him out of his life –again!, (3) killed his assistant’s ex-boyfriend and left the scene of the crime, (4) asked his father… Read more »
He didn’t murder anyone. It was an accident and it was self-defense. JP shot him!
As I recall, it was his father’s wife who did the seducing. She’s a conniving *****!
KEEP THIS SHOW !!! IT IS SHOWING HOW EVERYDAY LIFE IS FORMED , NO MATTER WHERE YOU COME FROM OR WHAT OCCUPATION YOU HAVE !! THE WRITERS ARE GREAT !!!
DO NOT CANCEL!
Personally I loved it! It’s the only TV series I bother to watch
Do not cancel. We love Rush and Satisfaction. Keep the shows for Season 2.
