The CW was the last to announce their new schedule for the 2009 – 2010 season. The network targets the desirable young female demographic but has been having a hard time attracting many viewers at all — at least when you compare them to the four major networks.
Like FOX, the CW only has two hours of primetime to fill each weeknight. They also recently gave Sunday nights back to the affiliates to program. That means that the network only has to program 10 hours of evening time each week. On the one hand, the execs need to be picky about what shows they keep around. On the other hand, most of their returning shows have been around for quite awhile and may soon be headed to retirement. The network needs successful new programming fast.
For next season, they’ve renewed 90210, America’s Next Top Model, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Smallville, and Supernatural.
Over the Summer, they’re unveiling two new series; reality show Hitched or Ditched debuted tonight and drama Blonde Charity Mafia will show up in July. Next season, you’ll be able to see The Beautiful Life, Parental Discretion Advised, The Vampire Diaries, and a new version of Melrose Place.

The shows you won’t be seeing back next season include…
4Real
This reality series follows celebrities as they travel around the world and meet inspiring community leaders. Eight episodes were produced but only seven aired.
13: Fear Is Real
A horror-reality show that revolves around 13 contestants trying to survive scary movie scenarios and win $66,666. Unfortunately, the show couldn’t scare up viewers. It’s been cancelled after all eight episodes aired.
Easy Money
Part of the Media Rights Capitol Sunday night line-up, this drama centers around a family of loan sharks. Eight episodes were made but only four saw the light of day.
Everybody Hates Chris
A semi-autobiographical sitcom about the early life of comic Chris Rock. The show lasted for four seasons and 88 episodes. It was looking pretty certain that the show was going to be cancelled so Rock ended it on his own terms.
The Game
After three seasons and 64 episodes, Melanie and Derwin were finally married. Since the network is no longer interested in sitcoms, creator Mara Brock Akil pitched an hour-long dramady version of the series for season four but the CW didn’t go for it. There’s been some talk that BET might pick it up.
In Harm’s Way
A reality show that details dangerous professions and the people that do them. The show got very low ratings and was pulled after only five episodes had aired. Five installments are still on the shelf.
Privileged
This dramedy stars JoAnna Garcia as a young journalist who becomes a tutor to two spoiled, rich teens. Though the series has a devoted following, it just didn’t attract a large audience. There won’t be a second season.
Reaper
Sam, a young slacker, learns that his parents sold his soul to the devil and, in return, must hunt down escaped souls for the Devil. The fun supernatural series was cancelled after two short seasons and 31 episodes. ABC Studios, who produces the show, is measuring interest from CW affiliates about possibly continuing the series in first-run syndication.
Stylista
A group of fashionista wannabes compete for a junior position at the high-profile Elle magazine. It seemed like a natural partner for America’s Next Top Model but viewers tuned out. All nine episodes aired.
Valentine
A romantic drama in which a group of Greek gods try to promote love among mortals. Four aired while four other installments are gathering dust on the shelf.

And OMG my name isn’t shaniqwa, doesn’t everyone have a right to express their views without ridicule? Did you read your message? Give yourself a break!
Well, I personally hate “The Game” was canceled. I saw it coming once the network moved the show to Friday Night. Everybody knows that Friday is high school football night ! As far as there being a lot of black sitcoms on TV, where are they? Constant repeats of Tyler Perry’s sitcoms does not constitute a lot. CW obviously does not value African American or any minority support.
You people are dumb. We have enough black sitcoms on TV right now anyway so go watch one of those. Do white people have their own month, TV station, or anything else that black people have? NO! I’m tired of hearing about this subject. And if you’re gonna complain, at least make yourselves sound educated and not like some ghetto fool.
Thank you very much!!!
the CW gone crazy…The Game is a VERY VERY GOOD show, what they need to do is put it on at a better time, and take some of them other bull SH*T shows off the air…I hope BET picks it up…it was just gettin better and better

Thank god… Privileged sucked. I love Zoey Dean… and the fact that her book was picked up it great… but they should’ve done The A-List….I watched the first few episodes of Privilged, but after that it started losing my appeal. This was one show that was a good cancellation… unlike Veronica Mars, 2 years ago,…
Once again I have been let down by the CW. I gave up on you guys when you cancelled Girlfriends without a finale which was wrong in so many ways I feel if you cancel a show you should at least end it right they deserved a finale. Then you do this…you not only cancel the Everybody Hates Chris, but you up and cancelled the Game. Silly Silly people. I am an black female in my late 20’s and in my opinion it seems every time you have a show that has a predominately black cast they seem to be… Read more »
I loved the Game and Everybody Hates Chris. it is a shame that African americans are always the shows that get cancelled. It may not be intentionally but those shows were the only reason why I watched the CW and it looks like I wont be anymore. These were great shows and for the CW to cancel them along with the other shows just to gain young females you will lose a whole lot more viewers, a more diversed audience just to please one small group. Good Luck with your choices I hope they work out. I’ve seen them and… Read more »

Reaper was an awsome show its was only in the last year we started watching it but we loved it and have watched every episode since then COme on ppl why do you always cancel a show as soon as I start watching/likeing it
I absolutely loved ‘The Game’. It should not have been cancelled. I watched all the episodes faithfully even when the air times changed. I will not be watching the CW this fall because everytime I find a show that I really like, it gets cancelled. I am sick and tired of Tyra and her aspiring models, why is that show still on? Because its Tyra??? Whatever may be the case, I WILL NO LONGER be tuning into CW. Thanks for the good shows in the past
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE GAME AND CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT YOU IDIOTS ARE CANCELLING IT. THE FACT THAT YOU SAY THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO HAVE THE YOUNG FEMALE FAN BASE, BUT PUT A GREAT SHOW LIKE THE GAME ON FRIDAY NIGHTS AT 8:30 MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. MOST YOUNG GIRLS ARE OUT ON FRIDAY NIGHTS SO THERE GOES YOUR FANS. LIKE ANOTHER VIEWER SAID YOUR ADVERTISING SUCKS ALSO. I RARELY EVER SA AN ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE GAME. IN FACT I’VE SEEN MORE ADVERTISING FOR THE REPEATS ON BET THAN I HAVE FOR THE NEW EPISODES ON THE CW. ANYWAY… Read more »
The Game was wonderful!!! I am very upset about it being canceled.
I am disgusted and outraged that THE GAME was cancelled. I will not be watching CW anylonger.
