The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing). The demos are typically reported with one decimal place but I’ve included two for more accurate ranking.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.

What do you think? Are you surprised by any of the ratings? Which shows should be doing better?
Wow, that Nielsen error really did a number on ABC shows. For example, if you factor in the revised numbers for “Castle” instead of it being in 25th place for the 18-49 demo it’s actually in 41st place! For Total Viewers, instead of being in 18th place it’s actually in 30th!
If you recall, almost all of the ABC shows kept seeing adjustments upward between the fast affiliates and the national numbers. None of the other networks were getting that quantity of positive adjustments. I think that was the tip off that something was wrong.
Jen, I agree…. THE WALKING DEAD is certainly the best show there is. I watch & really love a lot of the others but “Walking Dead” and The Amazing Race are by far my favorites!
Where is The Mentalist? The show was on in 2014 and it has not been cancelled….
It hasn’t aired yet so it’s not on this list. CBS hasn’t announced when it will return yet. Likely in early 2015.
For the shows I have seen I would say the best new show is Scorpion, worst is Madame Secretary. Still loving Big Bang and Black List. How to get away with Murder is very good however way too over the top sex scenes. It is obvious it is trying to hard to push the envelope and I tuned out. It is noticeable these ratings are omitting the #1show on TV. Walking Dead. It’s ratings blow all of these out of the water!
These are the shows from the five broadcast networks, not cable.
Thank you admin. Just making note that none of the 5 networks have the #1 show on TV when it comes to ratings. I should have clarified that in my post.
Technically Big bang Theory has a few more viewers (16.78 million vs 16.21 million) but Walking Dead is truly a phenomenon, especially as a cable show. It just goes to show that, if a channel has something that people really like, they will watch it “live.”
