Will A Gifted Man be cancelled or renewed for a second season? As the show winds down for 2011-12, that’s the big question for fans of the CBS TV series. In a recent interview, executive producer Neal Baer shared his thoughts but first, let’s look at the show’s ratings.
For those who came in late, A Gifted Man revolves around a self-absorbed and talented surgeon who starts questioning the purpose of his life when he’s visited by the spirit of his deceased ex-wife. The cast includes Patrick Wilson, Jennifer Ehle, Margo Martindale, Liam Aiken, Julie Benz, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, Eriq La Salle, and Mike Doyle.
The series debuted back in September to a disappointing 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.45 million total viewers. The premiere matched now-cancelled Medium’s 2010 opener in the demo but did improve in total viewership. Week two saw Gifted Man drop to a 1.2 in the demo and 8.18 million. The numbers stayed at those levels for several weeks but then perked up to a 1.3 in the demo.
The season to date has a 1.3 average and 8.34 million total viewers. It’s easily the network’s weakest drama — in both the demo and total viewership — even when the Friday night timelot is taken into account. Medium was cancelled with a 1.4 demo average. With an abundance of stronger programming, A Gifted Man is certain to be cancelled after all 16 episodes have aired.
In speaking with TV Guide, Baer however remains optimistic and shared, “[CBS] really likes the show, and we haven’t talked about the future at all except trying to just do great episodes… They’re very supportive of the show and I know they really like it, so we’re very hopeful about coming back in the fall.”
Because Baer and company are betting that the show won’t be cancelled, some storylines will be left unresolved in the season finale. Baer noted, “There’s plenty to hope for and wonder about… There are definitely questions about what will happen in relationships in the future.”
What do you think? Do you think that A Gifted Man should be cancelled or renewed for season two? Should the storylines have been wrapped up in the season (likely series) finale?

Please do not Cancel. It is one of the few fascinating shows left. A little promotional effort & a DECENT TIME SLOT WOULD PROBABLY HELP. It is a great human interest drama that any family member can watch. regards………rgh
YOU MUST NOT CANCEL A GIFTED MAN.
THE ACTORS ARE ALSO ‘GIFTED’ AND PAT WILSON IS NOT ONLY TALENTED, HE IS SO GOOD TO LOOK AT. WE DO NOT HEAR THE F WORD OR ANY OTHER
THINGS OF THIS NATURE. HAVE WATCHED IT SINCE THE BEGINNING AND LOVE IT.
Please, Please, Please don’t cancel this show!! I love it! I look forward to it every week!
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THE SHOWS A GIFTED MAN & UN FORGETTABLE! Both are great. Keep the new, fresh shows & cancel some of the older ones that have gotten boring or the story lines have gotten stupid.
Please do not cancel A Gifted Man. I love this show. Patrick Wilson is amazing and so are the other cast members. Their chemistry is great.
i love this show –DO NOT CANCEL–PLEASE
I love the show (the Gifted Man) i also love all the cast. There are not very good series on television anymore. When they do get a good one it gets cancelled and they keep crap like (raising Helen or that girl show) they are stupid and a waste of television .More people are going to premium channels like showtime and action max because regular television has WAY TO MANY COMMERCIALS) you get 20 min of the show and 40 min of commercials I hate it. Televison sucks in to days time. In Europe they do not show tons of… Read more »
Please do not cancel A Gifted Man! Too many good shows get canceled.
hope the show is not cancelled–really enjoy it
would have written in sooner but off in another state camping expecting I was recording what has become one of my favorite shows –
My favorite show of the season. There are still some doctors out there that became doctors for service not for the money. I come from a family surrounded with doctors & know that it is tough out there keeping your cool & your compassion & trying not to worry that you will not be sued. My brother & my relatives are still passionate about practicing medicine.
Hope you will bring the show back togive the GOOD DOCTORS a boost.
do not cancel everyone i know loves it and is upset it might be cancelled
DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW! it is so good i love it. All the good shows are cancelled and the stupid ones are renewed!
Please don’t cancel this show. I love it. I have even rushed home to watch it. I don’t like to miss an episode.
I found “A Gifted Man” early in the season and it soon became one of my favorites. A clean show that the whole family can enjoy watching and talking about. Lots of positive life lessons are incorporated in the show.
It would be criminal to not bring it back. Give it a bit of fan-fare and a decent time-slot! It’s a winner, if given a chance!
Love the show. Interesting and refreshing drama–absolutely sick and tired of all the crime shows out there. Please give it a chance!
Please bring Medium back!
