This evening marks the last episode of A Gifted Man of the season. Will the TV show be back for a second season or will it be cancelled by CBS?
A Gifted Man follows the life of Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), a talented but selfish surgeon who begins to change his point of view after being visited by the spirit of his deceased ex-wife. The cast also includes Jennifer Ehle, Margo Martindale, Liam Aiken, Julie Benz, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, Eriq La Salle, and Mike Doyle.
The show premiered in September to a disappointing 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.45 million total viewers. Week two saw Gifted Man drop to a 1.2 in the demo and 8.18 million. The numbers stayed at those levels for several weeks but then perked up to a 1.3 in the demo. Rather than give the series a full season order, CBS added just three installments.

Last month, CBS moved the show to 9pm. The time change seemed to help the first week but last Friday’s installment dropped back to the usual 1.3 demo rating. Undercover Boss, which took over the 8pm timeslot, has been doing significantly better than the drama.
The season to date has a 1.3 demo average with 8.50 million total viewers. It’s CBS’ weakest drama in both the demographic and total viewers, even when you adjust for the Friday night timeslot. To put things in perspective, Medium was cancelled with a 1.4 demo average.
If A Gifted Man was on NBC, the network would no doubt be considering a renewal. That’s not the case of course. CBS has the largest number of successful shows and, for whatever reason, A Gifted Man just didn’t find a big enough audience. It’s sure to be cancelled sometime between now and May.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see A Gifted Man leave the schedule? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?

this show is GREAT….i think it should be on Monday Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday not fridays….i love it and hope it don’t get cancelled
I am so upset, I was really looking forward to Micheal and Kate hooking up… Please don’t cancel this show, I had gotten my husband hooked on this show!
I can’t believe that A Gifted Man is being cancelled. My husband and I both really enjoyed it. There are several other shows that I’d be happy to see gone but not this one. Please reconsider!!!
I REALLY ENJOY THIS SHOW! DO YOU EVEN CARE ABOUT DEMOGRAPHICS FOR A YOUNG 80 PLUS YEARS!
My husband and I love “A Gifted Man” and we also enjoy “Unforgetable.” We both hate the reality shows. They are so stupid. I don’t understand why intelligent shows are cancelled, and the idiotic ones keep going. I guess one could call it the “the dumbing of America” to quote a well known phrase. Give the shows a chance. Some are moved so often, it difficult to find what day they are on each week. More time is needed.
I was slow to begin watching it faithfully but since it has not been on air for sometime I miss it like crazy. I never write in regard to my feelings for a show but I am this one. It is a superior program–well acted, well written, decent content. Delightful in so many respects. Please keep it on the air!
This was a show I could watch with my kids. It kind of reminded me of the old tv series called “Doc”. I wish CBS wasn’t canceling this series. There is so little tv we can watch as a family.
Please do not cancel A Gifted Man. There are so few shows out there that I watch anymore because I hate reality shows and I love A Gifted Man. I think some others are right in saying that Friday nights may not be the best night for this show…maybe put it up for a Wed or Thurs slot. Try that before cancelling it, I am so sick of seeing all the shows I like being cancelled and networks keeping crappy shows out there…
I always looked forward to the show each week. It certainly outshines, The Mentalist, which has been renewed. Who can figure what the public likes. I’m very disappoiinted that this will no longer be an option in my TV viewing.
I LOOKED FORWARD TO FRIDAY NIGHTS SO I COULD WATCH THE GIFTED MAN SHOW. iT WAS A GREAT SHOW AND NEEDED MORE TIME TO GET NOTICED.
SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY REALITY SHOWS ON THAT ARE DUMB, BORING, STUPID, SAME STORY LINES DIFFERENT PEOPLE.
We also LOVED this show – one of our favorites. We always looked forward to Friday nights and whatever crisis Michael would have to deal with. Lots of drama but also believable.
This is a wonderful show and I would hate to see it cancelled. There are so few entertaining dramas out there. I think the premise of his dead wife popping up may have turned off some people. That role hasn’t been all that interesting. She got Michael interested in the clinic, but her character is no longer needed and adds nothing to the storyline. The show is really good without the “paranormal” connection.
I love the show and would pvr it when I couldn’t watch it…I hope it won’t be cancelled!
Great show! The reason it is not watched much is because it is on Friday night and your demographic audience is not home on Friday night. If you moved it to Wednesday at 8 pm it might just give you the numbers you are looking for.
Love the show. Please don’t cancel it.
