Though it’s pulled in less-than-impressive ratings, CBS has ordered three additional episodes of A Gifted Man.
Airing on Friday nights, A Gifted Man revolves around a talented and self-absorbed upscale surgeon (Patrick Wilson) who begins to change his view on life when he’s visited by the ghost of his dead ex-wife (Jennifer Ehle). Others in the series include Julie Benz, Liam Aiken, Margo Martindale, Pablo Schreiber, Rachelle Lefevre, Afton Williamson, and Eriq La Salle.
The newbie series has been averaging a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 8.35 million viewers. It’s the lowest-rated show on the network and has been doing worse in the all-important demo than now-cancelled Medium did a year earlier. On the positive side however, Gifted Man typically pulls in twice as many viewers as the show’s competitors on any of the other networks.
CBS has ordered three additional episodes of A Gifted Man, bringing the season total to 16 installments. That’s a far cry from a full season order and, unless things improve, it’s difficult to imagine that the network will order a second season.
Three of the network’s other new shows — 2 Broke Girls, Person of Interest and Unforgettable — received full season pickups while How To Be A Gentleman was quickly cancelled. CBS hasn’t announced their mid-season schedule yet so it’s unknown what the network will put in A Gifted Man’s timeslot when the series has completed its run.
What do you think? Should CBS order more episodes of A Gifted Man or cancel it when the current season is finished?

this is a really great show and is a refreshing change to the usual police dramas and reality shows. the cast is wonderful and the show has made friday night tv worth watching
CBS should realize what a goldmine they have in a Gifted Man. Unfortunately, not that many people are professing their loyalty (perhaps they’re watching it online free and keeping it a secret like me, because it would threaten their social cynicism). It’s certainly been placed in a bad timeslot. I always forget it’s on – thinking “there’s nothing on tonight, it’s Friday” – but when I realize A Gifted Man is available, I feel like a starving, overworked single gal who found a plate of homemade dinner in the fridge, packed with meat and vegetables and love. I will be… Read more »
I love the ” A Gifted Man” !! Please Do Not Cancell!!
Hope CBS continues with the show and get a bit of action with Kate and Michael:)
Great show, should be renewed, along with Blue Bloods. Good line up for Friday night.
Patrick Wilson, A Gifted Man, great talent along with Rita and the rest of the cast. Please renew.
Great show….deserves to be renewed, along with Blue Bloods. These are the only 2 network shows we watch regularly, and record
KEEP THIS SHOW!!! Patrick Wilson is one of THE best talents on TV, movies, yes even broadway! He is stellar at what he does, he is believable, charismatic, can make me laugh and cry with just a look. The show has found its stride and gets better each episode. CBS, you have a solid cast on a solid show, give it at least another season in a decent timeslot and see your numbers improve!
Please order more episodes. I truly enjoy this show. It has a feel good quality about. I really hope you can give this show a second chance
Love it. It is a great show. Keep them on.
This show, A Gifted Man, is a refreshing change to all the reality shows and the detective/forensic shows on the air. My vote is to extend the show another season and extend the material into the more newsworthy events of the current US economical dynamics. I know there is a current dichotomy between the rich and poor in health care, but you might be able to incorporate treating someone in the Occupy NY movement or a potential politician, etc.
This is absolutely the best show on TV, no matter what network. I agree with Bernard. There are far too many reality shows on the air. A Gifted Man has been a huge breath of fresh air.
Love this show. Margo and Patrick are top notch. Why is it that reality shows stay on the air while well written shows disappear?
Love the show…love the show, love the show…CBS rules with How I met your Mother and A Gifted man….no more reality shows…just more A Gifted Man
LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!
This is a great show! I hope CBS renews it for a full season! I loved last night’s episode. Patrick and Rachelle have great chemistry on screen!
