Sometimes, TV shows that are based movies can be big successes. Sometimes not. About a Boy was not and now NBC has cancelled it after two seasons without even airing all of the episodes.
About a Boy revolves around San Francisco songwriter Will Freeman (David Walton) who had a big hit. It set him up for life financially — and gave him a lot of freedom and free time. His world is turned upside down when a charming boy named Marcus (Benjamin Stockham) and single mom named Fiona (Minnie Driver) move in next door.
The sitcom debuted in February of 2014 with a special preview episode that attracted a healthy 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. In its regular timeslot a week later, the ratings rose a bit to a 2.47 rating with 8.36 million. The numbers started falling after that but NBC still renewed it for a second season.
Season two performed even worse and lost a lot of steam. It hit a new series low of a 0.69 rating in the demo with 2.41 million viewers. NBC decided to trim About a Boy’s episode order by two and then opted to drop it from the schedule, leaving six installments unaired.
The network hasn’t announced any plans to air the leftover episodes and, now that they’ve cancelled the series, it doesn’t look likely that they will.
What do you think? Do you like the About a Boy sitcom? Would you like to watch the remaining six episodes?
This show is so great!! I only noticed it while on Netflix and have no idea when it came on NBC in 2014. They really need to put on more seasons but on Netflix because more people will definitely watch it.. it is hilarious
I love it and sorry to hear it was cancelled
I NEED to know what happened to “Will & Fiona” after the end of season 2!!!!! They kissed and NBC decided to leave us viewers dangling off of a cliff?!?

I just finished both seasons and loved it! 🙂 It was light-hearted and funny. I’d watch more seasons/episodes 100%
I just now started watching this show on netflix and loved it. It was funny and romantic all in one. It also is a show that broadcasts the importance of a male role model in a child’a life. I want more seasons please!
I thought “About a Boy” was a hysterical & refreshing sitcom about love & friendships. My name is Fiona too so it was extra special. A great cast does that and I think TV needs more family/neighbor fun shows to watch. I’m already into watching it again my 4-5 time.
I’m sad it’s been cancelled and would really love to see it come back for season 3 & 4…..Please bring back for all of us true fans!!!

Love the show. Love the writing, acting, characters. Please bring it back. At least air the remaining episodes on Netflix.
Yes. I wish Netflix would take up where they left off.
About a boy was a fantastic show. It was extremely cute and just adorable. David walton and benjamin stockham make a perfect son-dad couple. The way they show how marcus and fionas life is completely changed by the coming of will freeman,a 33 yr old bachelor is commendable.
Please dont let the fans down. I wish this show could be back:(.
I don’t know why they would cancel this show. It’s literally the best show ever personally. It’s so relate able and funny and uplifting and it would have been wonderful to see it continue and to continue to see change in each character. For me it’s my favorite show and would LOVE to have seen way more seasons!!
i liked it alot, good mix of things… would like to see more episodes!
