Following the ratings success of The Bible mini-series on History, NBC ordered a sequel — AD: The Bible Continues. Has this mini-series been the answer to the network’s prayers? Will they want a second season?
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the numbers saw severe drops in weeks two (falling 28%) and three (falling 31%) and the rating have kept coming down nearly every week. AD has hit series lows of a 0.7 rating in the demo and little more than four million viewers.
Though this was billed as a mini-series, the producers have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two. Just in case the network wants a second season, they need the additional lead time to have episodes ready for next Easter.
Still, based on the ratings, there doesn’t seem to be much reason for NBC to order a second season of AD. They could make the show an annual event but the audience numbers really aren’t big enough for a network.
Burnett and Downey could however choose to take the project back to cable where The Bible was a big success for them. That also did very well with DVD sales. In today’s ever-shifting marketplace, they could find enough outlets to keep producing Bible-based series for years to come without being on a network.
What do you think? Would you like to see a second season of AD: The Bible Continues on NBC? Would you watch it elsewhere?
7/3 update: NBC has cancelled the series. They won’t air a second season but…
It can’t be over, we are left hanging and wanting more!!!!!!
Can’t wait for another season wherever it is aired
Yes, please continue this wonderful series. It is a breath of fresh air amidst very violent offerings.
To keep the series going is a must. The world needs to know what happened. I for one will hold a new appreciation for the network.
Yes,
I’ll be waiting for second season and expecting the greater audience to continue series in the future up to the nowadays dates with full review of this holy story which comes to our days
I will just fall out if we don’t get season 2 I don’t even want to wait till next april wow I hate getting so involved in such a good show and then poof its gone leaving you hanging wow please just make me a DVD and I will go buy it lol
Yes!!!!!!! I absolutely loved every second of the series! I feel like they left the ending on a cliffhanger!!! If they have anymore factology from the bible to add it would be nice to see it. There are no words for seeing the bible you know and love being put into sound and images. Every character is great, every scene realistic, the clothing appropriate….this draws the mainstream audience to God as well as brings believers more in tuned with God. There is so much junk on television stemming from books about vampires and war and all this stuff, but rarely… Read more »
Yes – I would love to see Season 2!
Yes, I’m looking forward to a second season.
AD is a program our family looked forward to all week. We’re sorry to see it end. I agree with the idea that two-hour episodes would have been better, especially for the finale! It’s so great to see history come alive through a quality production and such talented actors and directors. Please grant us a Season 2!
Please continue where the show has left off there is so much to learn about the Bible, and the Bible is not the easiest book to read .please continue with the series it helps people understand the Bible and brings them closer to the lord .thank you
Please continue the series AD the Bible Continues. We have so much soft porn on tv that this show is a refreshing and much needed change. I will do whatever I can to bring the show back for a second season, especially for all the good the show is doing bringing people to the Lord Jesus Christ.
But of course I’m just one voice ” crying in the wilderness” of unwatchable programs.
Finally someone has seen past politics and started looking back to the bible.thats what’s wrong with the world today the bible and prayer has been taken out of our schools and now our kids don’t know Jesus at a young age like us older folks.we have cheated them out of the best gift of all. Internal life with our father in heaven.at least they might have a chance to watch the series A D the bible continues.all more the reason to keep seasons going and going.
Yes, I would very much like to see a second season of A.D. The Bible Continues. This series is a masterpiece and the best depiction of the book of Acts ever broadcast. The actors are magnificent and the stories so inspiring. I congratulate the creators on such a fine endeavor in getting the word out to the world. This series must go on!!!
I would definitely love to see a season 2!!! Why would you stop in the middle of a story? Would you have liked the “Lord of the Rings” if there was no “Return of the King?” Of course not! This story is inspiring millions of people across America, and hopefully this will continue. If just one person’s life was changed because of this inspiring series, then it was worth it. NBS should stop looking a ratings from one show and look at the big picture. It would be reckless and truly sad if the story of how the largest denomination (not… Read more »
